Hi everyone! This forum is awesome, I have spent the past 3 day reading stickies/threads in this forum!

I came across Acura TL 2004 by moahdib and since so impressed with his work! (again many tks for ya about writing up a tutorial on modding 04 TL)

I am also a Acura 04 TL owner and this is pic of my car.

I am very interest in doing a Carputer Project and now I have couple questions

First here is my hardware background info
    • Compaq Armada Laptop PIII 700 mhz, 512mb RAM and DVD rom
    • The lap has VGA second output and S video output
    • It can playback DVD/Divx movie in fullscreen on a 21" CRT w/o problem
    • onboard sound is only stereo
    • 1 usb port only and it is usb1.1
    • HD is only 10gb but the floppy drive can be swap out to put in another HD

    What I want to achieve
    1. DVD Playback with 5.1 audio channel support
    2. Navation System
    3. MP3 playback
    4. Connect my PS2 to screen *not priorty

    Question 1
I know in order to achieve 5.1, I must use some USB audio solution and I have look up on newegg.com and I am looking at the Creative Labs USB Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External. It should be enough right? I also look at Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy2 NX External but it is only better for recording and as for outputing, audio quality is the same right (despite it is 7.1 channel)?

    Question 2
I want to put my laptop in the trunk. And the LCD screen for the dashboard I want to use Xenarc 700TS . The difference btw Xenarc 700TS and Xenarc 700TSV is only the usb interface right? If I use the VGA interface and running a long vga cable from Dash to the trunk, will there be interference? Making the screen flashy and vibrating? In addtion, How does b]Xenarc 700TS [/b] get power? does it has a 12v car power adapter?

    Question 3
How does laptop get power? moahdib said for 04 TL, there is a 12v goes in the trunk for XM and he tapped into it. How exactly it is down? should get get power inverter? Will it be very noisy? also I need to use a USB hub so that I can use GPS/USB Audio, it also require power, so is power inverter a better fit for me?

    Question 4
People talked about ground looping problem, if I connect my audio directly to the amp (I dont might use the pc interface to control the volume of mp3 or dvd movie volume) would I still have that problem?

    Question 5
What GPS usb attenna should I get?

    Question 6
How do I start up my laptop without going to the trunk everytime? Can I always put it in hibernate mode and wake it by pressing the touch screen LCD?

Sorry for such long post but I really has tons question

    DVD - done
    MP3 - done
    PS2 - easy
5.1 sound and nav - As far as I know (someone correct me if I'm wrong), both of these require their own USB port. Possibly a USB 2. You'll have to look into the specifics of which kind of GPS mouse you're getting and which sound card. you may be able to make it work.

Question 3 - OPUS power. CHeck the mp3car store.
Question 4 - yah, it's an issue of grounding the wires. This problem can usually be fixed with a groun loop isolator.
      Question 5 - search around
Question 6 - OPUS handles this for you along with shutdown.

yeah... that is why I need a USB hub... but i check Creative Labs USB Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit External and it didn't mention it needs USB 2.0 but the OS requirement is Microsoft Windows® XP (SP1) Only WinXP SP1 fully supports USB 2.0, that might be an indication it requires USB 2.0. so I might need a pcmia usb2.0 card?
