  • I am an Idiott

I don't know anything about building computers. But I would like a carputer, very much. I was wondering if anyone can help me with some instructions, or blue prints. or something. I would like a basic system that plays CD's MP3's DVD's AM-FM tuner. I do not need GPS.I do not need internet or e-mail or anything. I would like to be able to store cd's and movies on the hard drive or what ever its called. I would also like to play my X-box on it. I like that Lilliput 7" touch screen.

    Please someone help me

If it werent for the am/fm tuner you mentioned, I would say go for a hacked Xbox...the screens are cheap, and it will do most everything you need to do.

Well first off, a lack of knowledge isn't stupidity, it's ignorance. As long as you can learn, you aren't an idiot.

Sounds like you're in for a lot of this:

Seriously, just search for terms you are interested in...others' wisdom is the best way to learn here. Welcome, btw.

        1) Build a couple home computers FIRST. You're going to need to know how to do that BEFORE you start shoving one in a car.
        2) The only AM/FM tuner for a PC is the Griffin Radioshark. Haven't seen a review of it to see how good it is yet.
        3) If you want to play XBox on the computer, you need a high-end computer that's going to suck a lot of power. The XBox Emulators need some serious processing power.
My suggestion: Get a DVD head unit and your Xbox and put those in the car. There's nothing that you've mentioned that necessitates a PC, so why go through the headaches of building one? If you chip your XBox (or get a pre-chipped one) and add a larger hard drive, you can store your music and movies and there are front-ends for XBox that will allow you to play them.

Granted, if you know nothing about building PCs, then modding an XBox is going to be pretty foreign to you as well

get a moded xbox with a large HD an inverter and a headunit with AUX inputs.

Get your guy who modded your xbox to set up mediacenter as your default dashboard on the xbox and get a VGA adaptor for your xbox to connect your lilliput! and use the xbox IR remote to navigate

OK, how is the Xbox/Liliput combination going to feed the need for AM/FM lik he needs? It's a waste of the guy's money, since Liliputs are so expensive.
Since the XBox is designed for composite video output, an in-dash head unit with DVD/CD/screen is the best, most cost-effective way to go. HE doesn't need VGA.

Get a cheap laptop, stick it in the car. Add a touchscreen later if things are working out for you, if not, sell it. USB radio (AM is unlikely) other than that you're pretty much all set.
