  • If you were building a new car pc?????

    What would you use?
If you had this case to work with http://www.carcpu.com/diy_kit.htm
And wanted to use an AMD based system with
A cheaper well known car pc friendly motherboard with decent graphics
between 1 and 3 ghz processor
256 or 512 mb of ram
around 80 or 100 gb HD
a decent sound card good for 2.1 or better
and a usb dvd drive so you could mount it somewhere in your dash

I just want what you would use since I am totally new to this stuff and dont know what all is compatable and most importantly car pc friendly. Thanks for the help in advance.

If I missed something besides a screen and input stuff let me know. I think that case comes with the nessecary stuff for power supply issues.

That is one expensive case! Granted, it comes with an Opus 150, but it's still ridiculously expensive when you take the price of that out.

If you want AMD, get a Mobile Athlon and a mATX motherboard. I use 512MB RAM, but some people prefer 256 for faster hibernates and resumes, and for the hard drive, bigger is better.

I'd say the case has two major drawbacks:
        Price - It's friggin' expensive!
        Size - It's friggin' huge!

Figure that the power supply included witht eh case runs $200 on the street, that's $195 for the case itself.
You can get much smaller cases for micro-ATX boards or Shuttle-based systems that will take up far less space for a lot less money.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
        How about the Wiki?

I would say do a little more searching on other cases that are out there. Take your time when planning out what you're going to buy so that you don't end up spending more money than you have to.

I spent about a week just looking at possible cases to go with. That case was one of the first ones I looked at, but shortly afterwards I found other cases that were better for my needs at a much cheaper price.

Cool. I am debating building my own now. But would rather use something already assembled. Is there any thread on how to build a case on this site?

            I cant find any searching.

Go with Mobile AMD Athlon and mATX mobo. You are better of getting a Biostar mATX instead of the Asus mATX I have because (I think) the Biostar give you a option to select FSB. On the Asus, you have to do the hard way => wire mod.

cool I am probebly gonna build the case my self. but my question is how is it best to mount the motherboard and heardrive so that they dont take the shock of the road too much.

Is there a certian type of rubber mounts or something I could use?

OK. But what about what I said before, and also how are the mini itx m1000 motherboards? They seam the most car pc friendly from what I can read from searching.
