Alright I've been doing enough reading, it's time to start getting my project together, you guys have convinced me .

This is what I'm looking at for a system.

Lilliput 7" Touch Screen - Touch Screen

VIA EPIA MII10000 Mini-ITX Mobo w/ LVDS - Motherboard and Chipset

Casetronic Black ITX-2699R Mini-ITX Computer Case w/ PCI Riser Card, External PSU - Case

    Kingston 512MB DDR266 Memory - Memory

    CarNetix CNX-P1260 12V DC-DC regulator - POWER!

The hard drive I haven't decided on yet if I want to go internal or external since I like the thought of being able to bring my Hard Drive into my house etc.

Also I'll be adding WIFI and Bluetooth hopefully as long as I can find cheap enough which will connect to my Motorola V600 for GPRS access. I'll also have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse in the dash and wire a USB hub into my arm rest in the middle of my truck where there will also be an external firewire/usb DVD burner. In the hub will be a smart card reader for my digicam.

I'm concerned about the comptuer though since it is 2.5" tall (which I know is tiny!) but my trucks seats sit really low so I have to do some measurements but I'm praying it will fit. The LCD I'm also worried about, I may have to mount it outside of the dash which I'm afraid to do due to security reasons (I go to school in Worcester, city life is harsh, especially in Worcester).

I plan to watch Circuit City for any amp deals (free installs) so I don't have to deal with that then just wire everything up and cross my fingers.

Any thoughts, concerns, ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys this site has worked wonders for me!

Looks good. WIFI and bluetooth is not that expensive so that probably won't set you back that much. Any reason you didn't mention GPS or just that you don't want/need it?

As far as the screen goes, maybe a indash tft from digitalww is an option to place the screen. I've learned from experience that plugging and unplugging the screen is a hassle and not very good for the connecters, at least in my case, so that's why i converted my screen to indash.

Other than that i'd say your good to go. What software will you be using?
There ain't no need to cry. Time's up. It's time to die....

a LOT of people have had bad experiences with the lilliputs....A LOT of bad experiences.....but some people either don't have the money for the Xenarc or just don't want to spend the money for the Xenarc.

BTW - are you on DakotaUSA.com by chance?

How are you going to use that LVDS feature on that motherboard?

My roommate can more then likely hook me up with any Bluetooth, WIFI or GPS software / hardware I need for minimal costs, possibly even free so it's not as much a concern for me. I definitely will have GPS though (I get lost getting out of my drive way ).

I have looked into the indash tft displays but they seem to expensive for my liking and I might just go with the mounted in-dash and mod my current dashboard, not worry about taking the screen in and out and just get an alarm system of some kind.

I'm going to build the PC first and get it up and running in my room with Windows Media Center 2005 to start and see where that takes me. I have a feeling I'll end up using XP Pro though or possible triple-boot with Media Center, XP Pro and Fedora Core 3 (linux).

It is something I'm concerned with, I haven't decided if spending the extra $100+ for the Xenarc is going to be worth it. I don't plan to get the screen for another month or so (need funds and computer comes first) so we'll see what happens a month down the road. Maybe there will be a cheaper Xenarc or something similar. Enough people have said they use the Lilliput though so it's going to be a tough decision.

No I'm not, but I suppose I should probably join huh? I need to start talking with Dakota users because I've had some problems with it early off and would like some opinions. Are you on it?

To be honest, I don't really know what LVDS is yet or what it does. I know it has something to do with Duo-View and LCD monitors and the ability to run dual displays (something I don't plan on yet) but that's about the extent of my knowledge. It's another thing I need to research. Do you happen to know more specifically about it?

Also thanks for the input guys, it's greatly appreciated, keep it coming!

It's still stock. I bought it about a month ago and couldn't use it for about 2 weeks because it was in and out of repair shops.

The only mod I plan on adding to it is the truckputer and other accessories. I dont' plan on visual or engine work for atleast until next year when I have a real job.

Dude! That's awesome! Do you have any pics? I've got a whole layout in mind but I'm having trouble figuring out where to put the computer cuz the seats are so damn low to the ground. What year/model Dakota do you have?

I go to Worcester Polytechnic Institute, I'm currently on Co-Op though so I don't have classes 'till September. Going to be a senior then I'm PEACIN' OUTTA WORCESTER!

                              Hey Grimey,

I got a 95 Dakota here. I love mine, just wish I waited 2 years for the new body style. Oh well, mine is 150,000 and still running strong with only a 2 semi-major repairs (fuel pump and water pump repairs).

As for my truckputer, I took out the original 60/40 seats and put in bucket seats. I made a center console for the computer, cd player, and bigger cupholders. I have amps in closures under the seats and 2 audiobahn 10's under the back seats. I moved the cd player to the console so I could put the screen in dash. I had to move the ac controls up but the dash is so easy to modify (at least the 95 is), so it wasn't hard at all. I'll post pics soon.

                              Currently
Sanding and prepping center console for paint, waiting for more money

                              Have
PC: PIII 866, 256 RAM, 200GB HD, Slim Slot Load, PCI 4-Port USB Card

                              Looking to Buy
Opus 150, Xenarc 7", USB GPS, Powermate
