Brand new to this as of about 20 minutes, love computers and cars though.

Could one of the more "experienced" propose a system of cost around 400-500 dollars. The only quidelines being that it would need to be a pre fabbed computer, meaning bought and ready to put in and taken into account that I already have a good 4 channel amp and decent knowledge involving computers and car audio.

    !Thanks!

take a look at the MP3car.com store ... they sell systems now, however it will be difficult to get a 400-500 system out-the-door from a vendor with what you want probably... with the cost of hardware + software license, it will add up more than 400-500.

But, you can buy the hardware for around 500 (built and tested). You would just have to put the O/S and a front-end of your choice.

There is nothing 'ready to put in', since you're dealing with multiple pieces/parts that all need to be wired or configured differently depending on what hardware you choose. There's also software to consider, but that's not until you get all the hardware worked out. The closest youll get is a prebuilt computer that some vendors are selling. They're usually based on the EPIA boards and have low-power PSUs.
I don't know of anyone who has purchased one of those units and gotten it working. I'm not saying they won't, just that I've seen no reports of it here, since these are relatively new offerings.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
        How about the Wiki?

If you have a good knowledge of computers and car audio, I would suggest building the system yourself. Its cheaper, and really isnt that hard. I know I put all my parts together, except for the screen, for around 350. The xenarc was another 400.

            .

Yea yea, "putting a pc in my car for less than 400 bucks" Thats where the fun began, some poeple can deal with that type of system in thier car but my system which is fully embedded custom dash and all cost a bit more than that...

That and you would have most of the components for it laying around. Sort of like I did. I actually stubbled onto this forum after I came up with the idea of putting a computer in my truck and built the case and comp and was just looking for a good monitor when i found this site
