  • Starting: constructive flaming requested!

Howdy Ya'll, I've been thinking and philosophizing a lot about this project and have concluded that now is a good time to start. The main reason for having a carputer right now is experimenting with the install, and to have MP3, DVD, and GPS right at my finger tips! So without further a due my plan:

7" lilliput, sensitive to the touch!
    M10K mobo
    512mb ram
Slot loading DVD drive (the one with all the features)
    PCI wireless-G
    USB GPS mouse
    USB FM receiver (see below)
    Wireless keyboard
    150w PSU
throw it all under the dash screw it to the stiff plastic bits; connect the speakers, and go down to the pub for some grub... and beer !

So like all knobs I have a few simple questions:

    - At this moment I have an Alpine 5ch amp (the one with a four channel and a mono amp glued together), so it means about all of $15 if I want to go head unit less. Which would you experienced folk recommend?

    - Secondly I can't find a case that has room to accommodate a PCI card, so I think I could go sans case; that is unless, again you experienced folk recommend that. Some problem about dust... I don't really have a problem with that.

Oh and by all means if you guys can think of something better or any little jewels of wisdom to bestow on me please share!

You could always get a PCI Raiser Card (think thats what its called) so you can angle the card 90 degrees, may give you more case options. Or go USB instead.

I can not wait for a good fm/am tuner to be developed, and plus I have to GIVE my car away soon so I think I'll leave the head unit in. This M1-atx is new to me I'll go research it right away, although I've read that someones caught on fire! Plus I like some of the features on the OPUS.

Ha! I did have a look at your instal, I did not know that your 'puter was caseless, I guess I should look again. Caseless that means I will not need to use the raiser, and I always like spending less money!

Thank you all for your timely responses. This is the kinda stuff I joined for!
