Hello to all, i was just wondering if anyone could help me with this issue. i am installing headrest monitors in my car and i wanted to know what would be the best way to get the 12 volt power from? Right now i have a power inverter but i want to do away with that because there is feed back noise from that when i drive and also, because i dont want anything plugged in the cigarret lighter all the time. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks

Wire it in to the ignition line under the steering column if you want it powered all the time, or use the ACC line if you want it to only have power when the car is on.
    Spent so far: $1,755

warning, the acc line is not made to tolerate lots of power, its like a heavy duty signal line... proper way is to use a relay with the acc line feeding the coil and constant + from the battery through the contacts to your devices.

Question. My car (Toyota Camry 2001) has an extra power outlet (aside from the cigarette lighter) that specifically says "12V/120W."

Is it safe to use it?

My laptop is only rated 90W max. The laptop and the screen and extras shouldn't be more than 110W.

          Thanks.

I think people have expressed concern about drawing maximum power off the "cigarette adapters" especially from the back, unless you can verify that its fused (probably) and that the wiring is large enough to sustain the current (10 Amps).

Hey Mikey...is this a carputer install? If so, depending on how much of a power supply you use for the carputer, you can run power to the monitors off the 12v line from the PSU. I think each monitor adds like 8 or 9 watts though.

I cant really say since I dont know the car but it sounds like it should- trace it to the fusebox and make sure theres a 10A fuse in it.
