  • Need help for my first carpc

    Hi there guys!

I'm thinking of putting a car pc in my car and I still have some questions even though I've been surfing the internet for days reading about this..
I want something cheaper so that is what I was looking for.

I was thinking of getting: 1. Ampie Car Computer Case
    2. M1-ATX 90W powersupply
    3. VIA EPIA M10000 motherboard
    4. 512MB RAM
    5. 2.5" 40Gb Harddrive
    and of course an LCD.

    Am I missing anything?
I need the computer to be able to play mp3's and GPS software (like MS Autoroute) at the same time with no problem. Is this gonna be fine?
Also since I can't install an optical drive in this case I was thinking of installing it under my screen in the front. Is that possible and what do I need for that?
I read that I shouldn't get a USB DVD but a piece of Cat 5 split the IDE cable and extend it to the front of the car. What is that an where can I get that? I don't really understand this...
Do I need any other adapters, HD to IDE converter or something?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

yeah you will need a hd to ide converter,
it seems like usb would be better than IDE for the dvd because the ide signal would get weaker and weaker the farther you went away from the computer.(you could get a powered usb hub)
