  • Need final opinion on hardware before I purchase!

Ok, after several weeks of research and reading up on several hardware options here and on the net I think I have my final hardware configuration. To give you some overview.

This is my goal for the car pc. In order of importance.

    GOAL FOR CAR PC

    1. GPS Navigation (see below of requirements)
    2. MP3
    3. Sirius Radio Integration
    4. iPod integration (if I do this I'll probably not need to do MP3 from the HD)
    5. Rear and front camera
    6. DVD (video)

    Other considerations:
    1. OBD II
    2. Internet
    3. Phone integration

    HARDWARE:
    1. Morex 3688 case
    2. M1-ATX
    3. VIA SP13000 1.3 GHz
    4. Xenarc 700TSV 7" TFT LCD Display VGA Touchscreen - Black
    5. 1GB PC2100/DDR266 RAM
    6. 2.5" 40GB Fujitsu 5400rpm
    7. Quanta Slimline DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo Drive
    8. BU-353 Waterproof GPS Receiver
    9. Onboard sound

    Future add-ons:
    1. Alpine tuner for Sirius
    2. Timetrax??? for Sirius
    3. Bluetooth

    Software:
    1. RoadRunner (FE)
    2. Map software (TBD); must have voice, great graphics, good POI, (US based), ability to add traffic alerts, weather etc.
    3. ODB II software (TBD)
    4. Windows XP Pro

    Car:
    2003 Honda Civic

    Audio:
Alpine HU with 3 JL amps and a 12" JL sub.
MB Quart components etc. you get the idea.

Based on that let me know if my hardware setup is sufficient or overkill; I like speed so keep that in mind.

Thanks for your help. I'm ready to order but will wait to hear some feedback. This will be my first car pc and my first experience with the VIA boards.

Please I would really like to avoid any negative comments. I've done my research and done the searches here to come up with the hardware and software needed. I know the pros and cons I just want another input or view on the overal plan and setup now. I've read all about the difference between the MII and the SP13000 and also know the 800x480 issues etc. I just need to know if what I have is good or too much etc.

    Thanks

The only thing I'd change is the optical drive. A slot-load drive is far easier to work with in a moving vehicle.
If it's going to be under the seat or in teh trunk or someplace where you're not going to pop in a disc while driving, it probably doesn't matter.

It looks like the common setup. No reason why it wouldn't work.

Oh, and I recommend iGuidance for the GPS nav software.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Under normal circumstances, a signature would go here.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes the location I've chosen so far will be under the passenger seat. I may also go with the Casetronic C134 Mini-ITX Case - Black. I am not putting it in the trunk because I don't want to spend money on cables. What do you think about this case? I think the other case will fit under the seat too so I may not get the 134.
