  • Shutdown question

    From the shutdown controler FAQ
“This prevents you from having to switch the system on using a manual switch or relay and also from having to select "shutdown" from your Start or Apple menu.”

It seems to me that the shutdown controler is a pure hardware solution. Which means that if you didn’t tell your XP system to shutdown, the next time it boots it is going to ask if you want to start in safe mode. Besides, shuting the power off w/o telling XP to shutdown can cause file damage and such.

What am I missing? How do these systems handle shutdown such that we can shutdown cleanly just by turning off the car?

Yea, they are also connected to the power control pins on the motherboard so they don't just cut the power, they send a little power pulse that "tells" the computer to go into shutdown/hibernate/standby, etc...

Good info there... is that also true when an external SDC is used/hardwired into laptop docking stations?
