  • pc wont power off with m2atx

Hi folks, i have been floating around the site for a while gaining lots of usefull information, unfortunately i only found the site after i had done all of the trial and error stuff on my own. thanks to you guys i could ditch the inverter regular power supply and the complicated auto power on stuff! sooo i purchased a m2atx power supply for my car pc thats in my glovebox:
    duron 700mhz
    512mb ram
    80gb hard disk
    unknown motherboard
    m2atx
    windows xp
anyways my problem is as follows:
the m2atx power supply switches the computer on fine, as does the secondry push button which i wired in to it. my only problem is that neither the m2atx or the bush button will initiate windows shutdown, i have been into the power management in windows, enabled the apm and selected the "shutdown computer when power button is pressed"
also i have been into the bios but cant find anything that relates to the power button.
so i assume that the computer should shut down with the press of the button, but it doesnt! i have to hold down the button for 5secs instead!
any ideas anybody? everything else is working ok except for this!
any help would be much appreciated!
oh and sorry for the long post!

check your jumpers and line that connects psu to mobo. you might have the wire on the wrong pins

i have checked, the pc starts fine with the power supply so the connection is not the problem, it must be something to do with windows not noticing that the power button has been pressed.

no problem. I seached and posted too but could not get an answer. I then stumbled on the solution. This should be in the power supply faq, an m2-atx faq would be nice too.

I heard about jammy dodgers from eddie izzard, dont think we have them here in the states though

no you dont have jammy dodgers, theyre ok but not great, it was just a nickname at school. anyways bad news! firstly, how do i know if i am using minlogon? secondly the fix isnt working because i dont have the option to put the computer into standby!!!! all i have to chose from on the power button menu is:
              do nothing
              ask me
              hibernate
              shutdown
this poses a problem as the fix relies on you selecting the stand by option which i dont have. concequently the computer is still no shutting itself down.
can i disable minlogon if it is the main problem of all this?

right folks after much research i have found the answer! when i installed windows originally all apm features on the bios were disabled, so windows installed onto what it thought was a dumb machine, unfortunately it appears that even turning on the apm in the bios it does not help, windows has to be re-installed which is a bit of a ball ache to say the least! i will have to install it in the car as i now only have a m2atx supply grrrrrrrrrrrrrr !
anyways i hope this helps future people who also forgot to enable the apm in the bios!

minlogon is something you would have installed by hand. so if you dont know you have it, you probably dont have it. One other thing I tried was a bios update. Search google for "xp shutdown troubleshooting" or similar, there are a few pages on it.
