    I know imma get flamed for this
    Since many people to like this type of gps/receiver, im go ahead and purchase this one...........

    My question is if i buy http://industrialcomponent.com/usglobalsat/bu303.html
    could i just hook it up to my laptop and thats it?? Because im going on a trip and soon i want to start my carputer project........

    youll need some sort of mapping software
    iguidance is pretty well liked.

      I understand that, but once i purchase that hardware I can plug it up to my laptop and download software, thats it?

        Basically, yeah.
        The 'software' is merely a USB-serial adapter driver (usually by Prolific), as the GPS continually sends a stream of data to a serial port.
        Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
        How about the Wiki?
