Hello everyone, I'm new to these forums and am planning on putting a pc in my new F150. Does anyone have a setup on 2005/06 F150? I would appreciate any help... mainly with working with the Lariat dash, etc.. thanks.
I have the same interior in my '06 f150 except that mine is 4x4.
Here are some thoughts that I have. PC goes in the console since its HUGE. Then either removing the factory radio and putting a touchscreen there or moving the heat/air controls in place of the cig. lighter (since I dont smoke anyway) and squaring off the oval edges and putting a "popup" touchscreen where the controls used to be.
I even considered taking out the factory radio and putting a popup touchscreen and an aftermarket head unit in that huge gaping hole. I think all 3 options would work. Any thoughts on this?
I thought about a drop down screen but it sits back pretty far and would cover the rearview mirror, but I guess I could put a 10" display and a CCD camera in the back window and us it as the rearview
Hmm... A 10" screen would fit in there huh? I was already considering purchasing a 7" lilliput with touchcontrols in place of the factory radio. Thanks for the input and let me know if you have any more ideas. Thanks.
PS: I already have a P4 2.8GHZ with motherboard and 512MB Ram ready to install all the necessary software. Undecided whether to go windows or linux. Thanks.
I do have the rails up on top. But i was measuring the dash and it seems a 10" will fit in there. Will have to cut a little on the sides tho. I was leaning towards windows also.... either Media Center edition or XP Pro. I mainly want it for DVDs, music, and GPS.
It looks like that dash is just screaming for a screen to be installed in place of your head unit. You could quite possibly fit one of those "Super TM 868" touchscreens in that space although I do not know the exact dimensions I have been up close to the F-150 dash assembly and looks like it might be close if you trimmed the bezel. Then on the blank spots on either side of the cigarette lighter perhaps some USB ports or even relocate the cig lighter and put a disk drive in its place? Either way, that strikes me as an ideal dash because its so flat.
