  • Power Inverter Auto Power Off

    Hi All,

i wired 400w power inverter directly to battery with 8awg wire and everything is working fine except the power inverter stays on even when car is off and key is removed from ignition. i have to manually turn off inverter to prevent battery from draining. how do i wire so inverter can auto turn off or somehow built a relay switch to turn it off? Thanks.

First find a good connection point to the Accessories (Acc) signal which should only be on (12v) when the key is in the on position.

    Option 1
If your inverter does not have a power switch connect the 12v supply wire going to the inverter to the relay. Next connect the Acc to one side of the relay's coil and the other side to a grounding point.

    Option 2
If your inverter has a power switch, connect the switch's wires to the normally open contacts of the relay. Next connect the Acc to one side of the relay's coil and the other side to a grounding point.

You can find a good selection of relays at an auto part store, I got one yesterday for $6.
