    Hello all,

    I'm looking to change my current standard power supply (used with 12V to 230V convertor for the moment) to a more "automated" process.

    Had expected some stickys for the "newbies".

    Can some people put me in the good direction ?

    Would like to see some solution based on the measured voltage from the car : about 12 V without motor running, some more (13,4 V ?) with motor running.

    Based on this measured voltage, it should be possible to automaticaly "power up" / "power down" (or resume/standby) the carpc.

    Or am I wrong ?

    What you want is a startup/shutdown controller. They read the voltage on an ignition controlled line. When it goes hot, it initiates teh startup of the PC.
    The better DC-DC PSUs & regulators have a SSDC integrated for this very purpose.

      FAQ is very usefull, thanks.

      After looking into some manuals of the OPUS an the Mini Box PSU's (like M2-ATX), they al seems to need a connetion to the ignitionswitch

      Isn't there a PSU looking to the line voltage and sents the power on command based on a detection in the voltage ? (change from 12 or less to 13 or more when engine running)

      Problem is i'm driving a company car and I won't tought the wirings and dashbord.

        you can just wire it up to a switch then.

          I do not think there is a product like what you describe. However I've thought about the same thing for a 'breifcase' pc that would connect to the cig lighter hole of any car. That way you could loan out a carpc to a friend with out risking a dead battery if they don't shut down properly.

          My Idea was for the operator to turn on the psu and let the psu shut things down when the alternator shuts off.
          The circuit would have to monitor the supply sense a difference and shut down when the
