  • I'm out of ideas (Sproggy mk2.8/+ ???)

Alright i need your guys' help here. I have a sproggy mk2.8 build and modded with the transistor and resistor to make it the 2.8+.now, if I manually ground pin14 the relay clicks and the LED lights up. No problem right?

Well, when I plug her into a mobo, and hit the power switch, nothing happens. I have tried the board with a different PSU in the same conditions and it works fine.

Playing around with a volt meter i noticed that when the normal psu is plugged in and i hit the power switch, pin14 is grounded for a split second and then is disconnected. This may pose a problem in that, in order for the sproggy to stay on... I have to keep pin14 grounded.

Not sure if I have ben clear enough, but I would appreciate any help.

P.S. I have checked the polarity and they all seem correct. I have also checked all of the output voltages and they also seem corrent.

when i designed the 2.8+ i noticed that the pin 14 goes ground and stays ground ..

so i wonder whihc mobo you have .. try the 2.8+ with a different mobo

I've got the VIA EPIA C3 (sig). I know there are others using this combination of parts? Would someone be kind enough to let me know if this is board behavior or PSU behavior?? I will try it with another board and keep you posted.

Alright, tried sproggy with 2 other boards...nothing. I get the same eerie silence i did before. Any suggestions?

          Gurugod this is strange ..

for the 2.8+ to work perfectly you will need constant ground on pin 14 of the atx connector .. which i suppose your not getting for some reason .. check the mobo and see if they are giving constant ground or just pluse of ground ..

OK heres what happens when I use a regular power supply with my VIA EPIA C3.

            1) I plug the PSU into the wall
2)At this point PIN14 on the connector has 3.3V
3)I attach the ATX connector to the mobo
            4)Immediatly, Pin14 has 4.2 volts
5)I hit the power switch (touch the two pins on the mobo)
6)Pin14 is fed 90mv (which I assume is ground)
            7)Everything powers up
8)PIN14 stays at 90mv until I power down

Now heres what happens when I go through the same process with the sproggy:
            1) I wire up the 12V, ACC to my bat and ground to the bat
            2)At this point, pin14 has 4.5V
3)I attach the atx connector to the mobo
            4)immediatly, pin14 has 4.28V
5)I hit the power switch (touch the two pins on the mobo)
            6)nothing, pin14 remains at 4.28V

This tells me that the board will deeliver constand ground under normal circumstances. THere must be something wrong with the sproggy. Here's what the sprogggy outputs when all i have connected is 12V, ACC and ground

All pins read 0.00-1.2mV except pin 14 which reads 4.5V and pin8 wihch ocilites around between 40mV and 80mV quite sparatically.

Seee any problems there? Are these the volatges I should have when teh psu has power but is off?

ok you will have to get me these readings

              PIN9 = ?

              pin 8= ?

              pin14 = ?

First connect the sproggy to the battery

check all the volts in all the mobo pins ..

Then connect ground to pin 14 and see if the sproggy kicks on if it does then check the volts again for all the pins on the ATX connector.

what i feel is you are not getting the 5v stby.

              Let me know

Try holding the power switch in for 2-3 seconds. I had a cheap atx supply that would come on when i pressed the button, but wouldnt stay on, then i found out that if i hold the button on for about 3 seconds, it will stay on.

I know it has nothing to do with the sproggy, but it could be some soft of motherboard issue.

btw, ive got an Abit BX-20 (OEM).

Ok, with 12V, acc and ground connected to the battery, heres what i get
                  PIN8- Oscilate dbetween 60mV and 220mV
                  PIN9- 0.00V (ground)
                  PIN14-4.5V

After grounding PIN14 the relay kicks over and i get..
                  PIN8- 5V
                  PIN9-5V
                  PIN14- Ground

                  thanks for the help

                    Sweet, i got it!!!! Hoora!
Although it is a mixed celebration. On one hand its functional, everything works, on the other, I'm a dumbass and have been busting my *** over something very stupid. I have pin9 wired to +5V and not standby! jesus, i'm stupid. Thanks for your help.
