  • Inverter: is this normal?

    Hello.
    I got a 300W DC-AC inverter.
I truyed finaly me pc project today, PC worked fine in 5 minutes , but there was a wheird sound from PC's PSU.
I startet du debug a system, and forund aout this:

My DC-AC inverter whitch is 12V-230V is producing 150-175V..

    Now my question is:

it is something wrong with this inverter isn't???

I would suggest measuring again with an ordinary lightbulb connected to it. If that makes the voltage take a more appropriate level, then the power supply might be the problem (maybe too heavy, too large inrush current...). Otherwise I think the inverter is malfunctioning.

now I found out what was wrong.

My inverter is pulse curved inverter therfor my digital multimeter shows lower Voltage.

I need a sinus curved inverter to run pc on...

      Thx for all..

Are you sure your pc will like all that mucus ?

All cheap inverters use a stepped (psuedo) sine wave, which is what most everyone on this board uses. High end inverters actually do enough to it to create a true sine wave.

Edit: Theres also a thread on this board that describes a hack that you can do to a traditional ad-dc pc so that it copes better with the stepped sine wave. Its got something to do with some filters of some sort that don't deal well with the stepped ac, if memory serves.

mp3dub: thx. But I have now chenged my pulse 300W inverter to sine 300W inverter. The store I buyed it from was very great with me.

frodobaggins: I got shuttle sn41g2. This baby is not cheap so it has to like!
