  • Stopping Headlight Flickering

I have a pretty serious sound system, and when the bass hits, the headlights dim. This causes me to go through headlights and a month or two. Both my battery and alternator are fine.

Would it be an awful idea to just get a 12 volt regulator and power the lights through it?

Your stereo is most likely to big for your stock alt to handle. look into a bigger HO alternator from someone like Irraggi Alternator or DC Power. then from there you may want to get a large dry cell battery like an Optima or XS Power.

First you should upgrade your Big 3.
    1) Battery negative to chassis
    2) Alternator to battery positive
    3) Chassis to engine

    that will help with
    1) Reduced dimming and smaller voltage drops
    2) More stable voltage and better current flow
    3) Less strain on your vehicle's charging system

buy some 1/0 wire and some terminals from Knukoncepts.com to get that done. doing the Big 3 upgrade some times will eliminate dimming but for some systems that is not enough by itself.

      Yes, that would be awful.

If upgrading the Big 3 (as was suggested previously) doesn't take care of your dimming issue, then you need to look at a beefier alternator and/or a better battery.

A Capacitor stopped the headlight dimming for me. Quick and easy to install and not as expensive as a new battery and new alternator.

... But just a band-aid that doesn't eliminate the problem, which is likely insufficient wiring, namely grounds.

i think the pervert is right. with under 1000w worth of amps, you shouldnt get much dimming if any on a 120a alternator. even a 95w shouldnt be bad. i bet your wiring could use some work.
