  • power off relay circuit

I have had my Car PC for a little over a year now. So far i am satisfied with what i have learned on MP3car.com and what i have done to my truck. The only thing i dislike about my setup is that i have to put my computer into hibernation every time i turn off my truck (this is because the battery on my laptop is no good). My question is: How would i go about making a circuit that keeps a relay enabled (supplying power to my power inverter, which in turn powers the laptop) for a few seconds in order to allow the computer to hibernate?

    TIA

    this is my circuit.

    Q2,R2 can be removed.
    BAT+ connect to car battery,
ACC+ connect to the power of car audio system.
ORED power connect to the power of your car pc.
You can use UPS shutdown control via WinXP.

Could you post a picture of your hardware put together? And do i need some type of driver for it to work with WinXP UPS control?

          A bit simpler approach...

Check out the attached picture. This is the setup I devised for use with my car pc setup.

Sorry, I don't have a picture for it.
This circuit is designed for desktop PC based CarPC.
I do have a Laptop based CarPC also.

            the differences are
            1)Add Q2 (78L05) for more stable.
            2)Change R1,R3 and R5 resistor value
This circuit had been tested on my CarPC.

            No need any UPS driver,
Please use custom model and choice the correct COM port that you are using.
And then check "Power Fail/On Battery, Negative", DO NOT check "Low Battery & UPS shutdown".

If you are runing Windows7, please download PowerChute software from American Power Conversion Corp.
