For a clean signal, and something that doesnt draw on the battery when the car isnt on, why not just hook a UPS to an inverter which is hooked up to a switched 12V. You can still have it so the computer powers on when the car turns on. And it will be a clean signal. What do you think?

This has been discussed before.. the problem is that the AC power the inverter generates will be interpreted as bad power by the UPS and it will always be switched into battery mode.

I'm an electronics expert.. you'll find better info if you search the forum, but that's roughly the reason it won't work.

Also, many UPS's give out a sawtooth wave on the AC out, leading to the same problems as an inverter (noise).
