  • 12v supply to the boot

    Not sure if this more car specific or could I at least get opinions.

    Im wanting to run power to my boot, perfeably straight from the ACC line so it does when I pull out the key.
    Where is best to tap into for this. Id like it to be as clean as possible, currenly connected to the cigarete lighter but that has alot of noise on it.

    Or is all that in vane and I should just run off the battery with a dead man switch kind of thing?

    I owuld recommend you run an 8 guage power wire off the battery (fused very close to the battery back to a mini fuse panel. You haven;t stated what all you want to power but if it's carputer power supplies, amp etc, they all need constant battery power as well that is switched by a lower current line from accessory.
    Picking off an accessory line is very vehicle specific but. Maybe if you post your vehicle specifics, someone can help with that. Quite often it can be found at the steering column plug in the drivers seat foot well.
    If you do decide that all of your power requirements are from acc powered then I would still run the same power wire from the battery and add a relay to trigger power through it from the accessory circuit.
    Nasty things can happen when you over tax the factory wiring.

      Iv got a 2005 Hyundai Coupe.
      Im going to be running a mini amp (<100W) and a laptop.
      I like the relay idea plus iv already got the hardware for that

        Radio Ignition Switched 12V+ Wire: Yellow

          ^ what he said. and if you are getting rid of the factory radio, just get a aftermarket harness adapter, and use the acc line off that.(i prefer the aftermarket harness adapter because then i can return the car to stock with very little trouble)

            I started using the stock radio harness but that was causing alot of interferance to the speeckers. Im guessing it was crosstalk due to the larger current than it was designed for

            Thanks for the help, ill look into running a relay onto a connection straight from the battery

              The pin marked "Positive Trigger" will connect to your accesory +12v line, and the "Fused 12v" will connect to the battery.
              Remember to fuse at the battery for a maxumum of the amp rating of the relay.
