  • What is the correct way to bench-test a DC-DC PSU???

    I need to bench-test my M3 PSU before going through the tedious work of installing it in my car...help!!! I have a Via M10000 mobo, and all attempts at a DC-DC solution have failed to power this thing. Just got a brand new M3...same thing. Only the standard AC-DC PSU works on this board so far. I have my whole audio/video system working like a dream except for my PC(can't find a way to power it in the car that works). Any idea why???

    Use a standard ATX power supply to feed the 12V to the M3. (yellow and black)

    You just need to run a cable from a gnd (black) to the PSOK (green) connection on the 20 pin connector.

    Join the 12V and Acc connector of the M3 to simulate ACC on the car.

      Nope, doesn't work. I may have to settle for what I got installed already. The PC was only a bonus anyway, but the power issue is turning me off to adding a PC to the car. Plus its becoming too expensive. Hope I can get my money back on this PSU(waste of more money)! Was really looking forward to a car PC...but power got my project at a standstill. Nothing out there seems to just "work" as far as powering the PC. The inverter didn't work(refuse to continue to spend money on an if, and or maybe). Has anyone got a sure shot way to power this mobo in the car?

        Sooo.. what part 'doesn't work'? The ATX PSU won't turn on? Does the fan on the ATX PSU spin up when you turn on the power supply? Can you use a light bulb or something to see if it's actually putting out the proper 12v on the yellow wire?

        The ATX PSU is working and putting out 12v and you connected it to the M3 and the M3 won't power on the motherboard? Do you have a multimeter to make sure it's getting power? Is the LED lighting up? (If the M3 has an LED, I'm guessing so.)

        I know how frustrating it is, but with the right troubleshooting, you can work this out. The M2/3/4 power supplies ARE the proper way to go about getting power to your motherboard.

          The ATX powers the M3 on, it blinks a few times(green light) sending the startup thump, the fans start to spin, then everything just stops. This is while using the standard PSU to test it. The standard PSU works flawlessly by itself, but the M3 keeps shutting off(won't stay powered on for more than 3 seconds before shutting off). I have the jumpers set like the instructions illustrate....Have no clue what the problem is. I think I'm gonna send the M3 back for and exchange...and if no luck, I may have to give up. This project is already many aggravating months behind schedule(LinuxIce2 problems and this never-ending search for reliable power)!!!
