  • uSDC or Micro-Shut-Down-Controller help!

    I've been basically killing myself on how to automate my PC which uses an inverter. I opened another thread a long time ago, and yesterday realized I couldnt never achieve what I wanted to do all alone. So I went ahead and bought the uSDC or Micro-Shut-Down-Controller from MoCoSo.

    My issue is that I do not understand the schematics on setup at all. It seems like the PSU is in the picture, but there is no reference to what happens to the Inverter. Shouldnt the controller be controlling that? Can someone please explain this to me? Many thanks!

    OK, I understand them. I just dont know how the inverter falls into place.

      Nothing in the manuals that will help?

      If you are using this to turn on the inverter, which then powers the pc, shouldn't it be wired to the inverter like you'd wire the anti-thump from an intelligent power supply to an amplifier? It looks like the connection diagram on the main page of mpegbox.net/microsdc shows how things should be wired.

          The manuals confuse me because they make no mention of the inverter. The way its done, it seems they have it connected directly to the PSU of the PC. Its like they left the Inverter out. Im hoping my drawing up abouve is correct?

            I didn't find anything on the website mentioning an inverter, so that's probably why you don't see anything about it. If the relay turns on the inverter, then that looks right.

            You probably already thought about this, but make sure there's some sort of delay for turning off the inverter after you turn off the ignition.

              from reading the manual, thats what the computer sense line is for, or at least thats what I got from the instructions. I think i'll have to wait and see when the controller comes in.

                Yes this will work just make sure the Amps/Volts rating of the relay you use to replace the inverter switch is high enough.

                It may be stamped into the switch or trace the wires back to the PCB and see if it is labled.

                But as a side note I personly would never use an inverter full time as the dangers well outway using a DC - DC supply.

                  Well the relay will not be in contact with the actual inverter line. It will be wired into the inverters on and off switch. Judging from the gauge of wire the switch uses, a 20amp relay should be fine.

                  The switched is wired, so im planning to just remove the switch, extend the wires and connect to the relay.

                  I do not know if you know, but my multizone setup uses a 550 watt PSU. There is no DC-DC PSU that powerful. The PSU is powering a AMD Phenom II x6 with 12gb of RAM and a fairly power hungry graphics card. I made sure to buy a very well reviewed inverter, rated at 600 watts continuous and 860 watt peak. So I think I will be OK.

                    The inverter is hooked up to your battery (or a spare), correct? If so, why not 'cut' one of the wires from the battery to the inverter, and use a relay tripped by your acc/ign wires. Works for turning it on/off when your vehicle is on/off. You would just always leave the inverter turned on, but power would be cut or applied via your ign state. Shutting down a system is another story though...

                    If your trying to find some "smart" shutdown procedure without using a dc/dc psu, well, I have no idea where that would come from. Via lack of sleep, I can only think of getting a dc/dc psu and not really use it, but use the turn off feature. Would require more relays and splicing into the mobo on/off headers for those relays. Doubt you want much wiring at this point though

                      Because I was worried that there would be to much pull that it would blow the relay. Also want it to automate. When it shuts down, I need it to 100% shut down. Also because my systems eat a lot of power, I need everything to shut off for hybrid sleep for the main PC system. The uSDC is a smart controller. I emailed the creator and he says my setup will work. <crossing fingers>
