  • Regulated 12 volt to 5 volt conversion - Howto?

    Guess I might be blasted for not searching, but the search engine here is kinda picky and I wasn't having any luck.

    So I have this 12 volt regulated power of 70watts. Its a dc to dc convertor from mini-itx.com. I was thinking about mounting this in the front of the car and having it power any misc perhipials I plan to mount up there, while in the rear of the car mounting the opus 150watts. So I have this slimline cd/dvd in a case which outputs to firewire, and it is requesting 5 volt dc. I bet theres an easy way to get 5 volts from a 12 volt supply, but I don't know where to look other then here.

    If you have any good reading, please point me to it.

    Thanks,
    -Jason

    you don't need 12V regulated to produce 5V regulated...

    How much amperage do you need?

    With low amperage use a linear low drop out.
    With higher amperage use a DC-DC 12V->5V
    Epia M9000, lili 7" vga&touch & 2xTM-7002S compo, camera with reversed image, 2.5" 60 GB, 256Mb DDR, Opus 90W, GPS usb... AND MEDIACRUISER of course!

        PT6625: http://focus.ti.com/docs/prod/folders/print/pt6625.html

        Small, efficient, easy to use. It's what I use to power my computer (along with a PT5071 for the 12V).

            Why not run the 5v from your Opus in the trunk.
