Ok I知 looking for one of you gurus to tell me I知 a total moron. This is my plan to start off with. (I知 a little strapped for the green stuff.).
I want to build my first car pc with a normal desktop pc. (It痴 what I have laying around) The thing I知 a little worried about is it has a 350watt power supply, do you think this will be a problem? I知 hopping it will work with a normal power converter.

First list out what you have in that desktop, then we can tell you if it'll work.

If you want to keep the psu provided with the computer you want in the car, you will have to buy an inverter that can supply that wattage continuously. Some of your higher wattage inverters go by Peak, and then may have 2 or 3 tiers after that. Such as 600 watts continuous for 20 minutes. 660 watts continous for 10 minutes 500 watts continuous. Keep in mind you will not only be powering the computer, but also the monitor. If it were me, I would get something that can provide at least 400 watts continuous, maybe even 500 watts continuous. But as anybody else here will probably tell you. it!
WTF?!? You did what? With who? Why?
Current Carputer... 20GB iPod, I am working on an upgrade though!

Look, your power supply is probably 350watt peak, it doesn't put anything close to that out continously. Now the thing with power supplies is it'll only suck as much power from the inverter as it's putting out (roughly). I've had a 300watt power supply plugged into a 145watt inverter before I bought my 90 watt mini atx power supply. Never tripped my inverter or anything like that.

Edit: I've since replaced the 90 watt with a 200 watt (forgot all about it!). no problems.
