It actually flamed up! Or did it just smoke? That would make a good video.
Call Kris, he's a nice guy. I'm sure he will work with you.
    It's the cake having/eating thing.

You might have to eat some bill to have if fixed because you took it out of the protective case. Nevertheless I'm sure Kris can work with you.
              Mine needs to be updated.

what protective case? That metal thing its screwed into?

I'm looking at it now, and I dont really know if I want to put this back into my car.

I was looking at the opus 150 watt, and that seems a lot more to my liking..

I dont know what to do now...

Especially with all the OPUS horror stories

I think someone else posted a pic of their fried opus some time ago (within the past month or so) and it was that very chip that was burnt, the upper left part of the chip even, just like yours.

Seems like it could be a design flaw.

I think that is actually a MOSFET, and perhaps the rds(on) is too high causing excessive current, and like my avatar 'pow'

wow, sorry to hear about the mishap...i've had my 150w opus for around 3-4 months now with no problems...even after unplugging it numerous times from power

The 90w Opus doesn't come with a protective case like the 150w one does...

                        Good luck!

That must have been the same thing that happened to my Opus 90w. There was a small stream of smoke, but I pulled power before anything cooked like that. MP3Car.com was very kind and quick with replacement! Kudos mp3car!

so from that thread choyak posted.. it basically says you overload you 12 volts supply and that you have to cool it better to get over 2.5Amps. dont ask me how to do it.. i dont own an opus. but thats what it say in the other thread.

just forgot to say. if the power supply like $200 and it doesnt come with fan? i dont see how the power supply run without the fan.there is notting that will give it cool. because power supply in the car in summer is going to stay hot.
