  • All built and working, just one last problem......

    The PC is built, the software configured, the CD's ripped, the in-dash screen is here, and the opus is working......

    And everything is working as it should, except that if I switch the ignition on, wait and then start the engine the PC stops, shuts off and has to have the power removed and then restarted. This could become a real pain !!

    I think when the engine is cranking the battery kicks out alot more voltage than it can handle and promptly shuts down to stop any damage being done.

    I have tested it with an multimeter, and it goes up to 15v when starting the engine.

    Could I solve this with an inline voltage regulator,

    I have a couple of these:

    Would putting one of those in work ?????

    And if so, how do I wire it. I'm thinking wire it in line and the run the ground back to the opus black wire

    If you know, Please help as this is my one last remaining glitch !!!!

    The Opus has a regulator which provides the correct power given an input range of ~8-18V

    Therefore, it is not due to too high an input power. My guess is that either:

    1. You've hooked the yellow (switched) and red (permanent) cables round the wrong way
    2. The permanant 12v (red) cable is not hooked up to a permanent 12v line (ie it goes off when you start the engine)
    3. Combination of the above

      Thanks for the help. I think I'll go with option 2. This is the fatal flaw in my plan of wiring it to my 12v output in the back. The car must divert the power when it is starting. Looks like I'll be having to spend a few hours in the cold hard wiring it into the battery directly !!
