  • is there anything available bigger than the Opus 150w?

I'm scared of getting a powersupply that does not provide enough power. I want to run atleast a 200w DC-DC ... but don't know if they exist. I checked the store, but the 150 is the biggest

    thanks for any suggestions

did you search the forum or google?

this is not int he newbie section so i am allowed to say the above comment!

here are some tips: (and i can't beleive i am doing this)

Sproggy Mk4.5 - 250W DIY PSU. cost approx 100 in kit form

Keypower - standard ATX style so no advanced startup/shutdown - i think

You sure the 150W won't do? You could always use something else to run additional devices.

It is the bigest, some folks run 2 DC-DC PS (searching would have told you this) Some use inverters. Good luck and read more.

      D201GLY2, DC-DC power, 3.5 inch SATA

Yes, you should search... and Yes, It has been covered before!

thanks for the tips. so the real answer is "no" ... there is nothing bigger than the opus 150w. I want something that controls startup and shutdown.

Thanks for the tip about running additional devices off another power source, that's a very good idea.

and what the **** is wrong with all of you? quit acting like such information nazi's. yes I searched, and yes I googled. I also searched on ebay. thanks, but I'm not a newbie.

The sproggy i listed in reply 1 has the shutdown and startup features!

The only problem is you have to build it but it is cheaper and more powerful than the Opus!

Sometimes i wonder why i bother.....i really do!

lol did I hit a nerve? I didn't mean to **** you off. I was just giving my opinion. it seems like in any forum nowadays, the only response people get to questions are

              or

              or some smartass response

it just got to me. I didn't mean to offend. i apologize. I thought it was a meaningful question, because I can almost swear I've seen a 200w opus.... but I guess my memory is going...

If you want something close to Opus but more powerfull, DIY a Sproggy.

How sure are you that the Opus won't supply enough power? What are you system specs?

Yeah, I've seen talk of that as well, but there is currently nothing on their website.

They have also got the POL which can be an addon to help power the bits off the MB.

one thing that is puzzleing me at present with OPUS is, the are bring out a 120W (actually already available) and an 80W PSU. Now seeing as they already have the 150W and the 90W, what is the point, there is so little difference and they are smaller, whereas I think most people are now looking for bigger than the 150W. Are the new ones going to be a lot cheaper than the ones they are comming in below at?

I just get ****ed off when you answer someones questionevent hough it is obvious they have not taken much effort to seach and google and then they come back and make stupid *** comments and don't read what you wrote or look into it further. I could have taken a long time to write a full in deppth description of the sproggy giving part numbers and schematics and breakdown of what every component does down to the last resistor but i though i would let you go looka t it yourself as that is what I, and most othe people do as it is how we learn!

I would seriously give the sproggy some thought if i were you if not check otu shat some people are unning ont he Opus and compare it to yor system.

As for the 220W Opus, i have seen a fair bit about it and by no means have spent hours searching for info on it but i remember the last threadi saw about it (which was the biggest thread about it if you search) states that it is not likely to come out until the 3rd quarter of 2005.

If you have the skills, or want to learn some new ones, build a sproggy. If not use an inverter for now or settle for an opus 150 and upgrade or add another PSU later if need be.

Now i have repaeated everthign already said pretty much so please read it and understand your options fully.

Oh and yeah my avatar is pretty neat - so no stealing it!

If you have any more questions please try and spend a bit of time reading and thinking it through yourself. it really is soooo much better to work stuf fout for ourself other that being told - afterall we could be telling you complete bull**** (fortunately you can rest assured if anyone does to to give someone bad info ont his forum they will be found out pretty much immediately as we are all a nice bunch - except some of us are irrate monkeys if you haven't already guessed! )

Good luck on the install btw and get your specs up in your sig so we can actually see what we are advising for!

Bear in mind the OPUS is a high efficient PSU as opposed to the standard ones you get with a PC. Not sure how efficient the Sproggy is.
