  • Another OPUS switching question - this one's different (I think)

I bought the Opus MPX.ITX.12 Mini-ITX Vehicle Case which comes with a DCX3.1209 DC-DC 90W included. I have wired the (red) live into the battery, the (black) earth to a suitable earth, and the (yellow) switched to an ignition-switched live. That all works as I want it to and the PC boots 10 seconds after switching on the ignition and happily survives cranking, then suspends when I switch off.

To power the amplifiers I have wired live to the battery, earth to an earth, and switched live to the Opus output - yellow wire. I assumed that when the Opus had fired up it would switch on the amps. However, the switched live has no output from it, though the red wire from the Opus output does output 12v when the PC is booted, but nothing when the ignition is off. This is not how I was expecting it to work.

Have I misunderstood what it should do, or is my Opus defective?

If i'm understanding you correctly, you can just use the 12v rail from one of the molex connectors.

The Opus has a special remote trigger output for that.

"The remote/trigger output can supply raw switched battery to turn-on slave device. This out can be used to turn on such devices as LCD monitors, Head units, Amplifiers, external DVD-ROMs, etc. It is intended to control remote inputs of above mentioned slave devices and NOT intended to power directly by the remote output of the DC-DC."

You may want to download the more extensive manual that comes with the Opus 90W:
      http://www.logicsupply.com/images/po...ITX_Manual.pdf
It contains a wiring example on how to connect slave devices. The diagram appears to be missing in your manual, or perhaps my acrobat reader is broken (the last 5 pages of your pdf are blank here)

mox - I am most grateful. Your pdf-reader is correct - the pages are missing. The bottom of page 8 and top of page 9 shows what I needed to know. The RED output wire is meant to be the switch wire (and that's what I found it to be testing with a meter).
        Thanks again.
