  • M1 + Xbox

    Ok just a quick qeuestion,
Im Installing my xbox into the car using an M1 ATX PSU and was wondering if the 'switch' cable needs to be connected for the M1 to run (says something along those lines in the manual but its not clear) as the xbox doesnt have a actual switch cable....what have other people that use an xbox done in this case?
    Thanks in advance

    Anyone?

Ok ill say it simpler....Does the M1-ATX require require J6 (motherboard on/off switch) or J8 (external on/off switch) to be connected to work.

Sorry if im missing something here and its a simple solution but any help would be great.

J6 sends the signal to your motherboard to turn on the psu. So I would think it is required. I'm not sure how your installing in an xbox, its possible that the power switch on the xbox sends a signal to the psu to turn it on.

Otherwise, you will have to short the green pin to a black pin on the 20 pin connector in order to turn it on.

J8 is not required. Its purpose is for an external power switch for the computer. So if you short J8 it will send a signal through J6 to the motherboard to turn on the psu.

Standard the xbox power switch conects directly to the MB and the only way the MB and PSU are connected is via the AT (i think it is (12pin)) so i would assume the signal goes through that to the PSU normally
So what i understand that ur saying is short J8 with jumper, then what do i do with J6?

        ---Edit----
ok ive just had another look at the circuit that goes between the M1 and the xbox at it 'plays with' the green and black wires using transistors so im guessing that it shorts them when the power button is pressed
Ill try on the weekend let me know if u think of anything or if what im thinking is completly wrong

Ok, let me get things straight. You have an m1-atx connected to the xbox mobo and the switch on the xbox connects directly to the mobo. If this is right then J6 & J8 are not required. It's all standard.

Think of it as a regular comp. So you push the switch on the xbox and that sends a signal to the mobo which turns on the psu. Correct me if I am wrong.

no thats correct and thats what i thought should happen but when i went over theM1 manual just b4 i install it it mentions J6 or J8 has to be connected to something

            c) Motherboard is not Turning on (cont):
Make sure either J6 or J8 is properly connected to the on/off switch of your M/B

I believe the manual is trying to troubleshoot a possible problem with the built-in shutdown/start-up controller. But you are not using that feature. So as long as you have the correct mode selected, it should not be a problem. So you should have no jumper on the mode select pins. This would put it in traditional psu mode.

cool thanks for that thats exactly what i wanted to figure out, sory for asking so much but would it still work with jumpers in? as i want to be able to set the 'hardoff' so it doesnt drain my battery

Hmm, well I don't think it will work, but I'm not positive. The thing is these modes are dependent on the switched power suppy (J12 Ignition). So if that is not connected then it will not know when to startup/shutdown.

In this case, if you do not have the switched pwr connected then hardoff will not work until your battery voltage drops below 11v for more than 1 min., as long as you have one of the modes selected. I would probably choose one of the modes that has hardoff set to never. Mainly because I think thats when the manual says this function will take effect. But don't quote me on it, look it up for yourself.

No problem. Good luck, the m1-atx's are touchy but with enough tinkering your bound to either get it right or buy a new one to try again.

Oh by the way, I have a spare one if you need to buy a new one.
