  • power to laptop and 3 mobile devices

I have too many devices in my car!

I have a nokia 3650 phone, dell laptop, motorola handsfree, and 7290blackberry. I use all these devices daily for my job.

I am getting sick of swapping the lighter adapters to charge up my cell phone/berry. And leaving my car to plug in my laptop.

How can I make it so that each of these has a "permanent" way to be charged/mounted? I would like a custom built rack for mounting all these devices and keeping them charged. I suppose the laptop would be hard to mount but are there any solutions? I would like the laptop mounted near passenger seat ideally.

well you could use a Carnetix 1290 if the dell isnt one of the new models with proprietary connectors.

Otherwise i would hard wire everything to a multiple cigarette lighter adapter mounted below the seat. Leave it hot at all times. Get yourself a battery saver that cuts power to the car if voltage drops to a specified point.

I'd run the Dell off of the 1290 so it could incorporate shut down controlling and hardwire everything else
Take my advice: Do not try to build a system that includes EVERY feature. Start with the basics, build it to a bug free state, and THEN add on.

Why not add more power ports? My s10 had a divider in the door pockets that was like 1.5" wide so I drilled a hole in it and stuck another 12v plug there then plugged the cell phone charger in there and dropped it in the door pocket. Then I put one on the back of each seat for stuff I would throw in the back of the cab or stuff I would sit on the seat, made it neater than having the cords stretched from the dash to the seat. Doing the same in my new truck http://www.ninefamily.com/Projects/T... - 320x240.jpg This is behind the front seats

Well, you put quotes around permanent, so what do you mean by permanent. And Mount? So, you want to power/charge everything while it is mounted somewhere. In reach from the drivers seat? What kinda car? Do you have a hummer? Do you take passengers with you? Are you currently

There are SOOOO many options for power. You can add one of these http://www.cell-phones1.com/accessor..._splitter.html, though you should be carefull how much power you draw through everything.

Your laptop can be charged with one of these

For your laptop, you can get one of these http://www.jottodesk.net/, or one of the RAM MOUNTS from here http://www.ram-mount.com/ramgps.htm or http://www.expressmounts.com/. Notice also that RAM makes mounts for almost EVERYTHING you might want to mount in your car.

thx guys for all your suggestions. That ram-mount place has everything, I am even more confused with all the possibilities now

just how many of the cigarette lighter splitters can I daisy chain onto each other? would a laptop , blackberry, and bluetooth hands-free be too much (4 devices)? If it is too much, what do I have to do? Run a wire directly to the fusebox?

The amount you plug in all depends on the current they pull. Find the fuse for your plugs and see how many A it is. Then take all the devices you have and add them up, if its less than the fuse for the plug then your safe.
