The question was stupid and the answer stupider...
"Why wont the powersupply turn my PC on?"
"Because you didn't connect the mobo switch to the PS switch."
Anyway, here's another problem. I figure out how to get it to turn on and it works fine (on my lunch break at work). So after work, I drive home w/out the TS connected, because it's dark and I just want to get home to finish putting the dash together in a lit area. I drive home listening to the stereo (PC sound will go through AUX - but at this time they are unrelated). Ok, before I go further, here's my setup:
I can see the fans going and the GPS mouse light on, so I know the computer is on. When I get home, I don't bother turning the car off, I just go to plug in the monitor (built into dash) and put the dash into place. Before the dash covers up my work, I notice a bright orange light coming from the PS, and I know I didn't put any LED's in there, so I'm thinking "FIRE!!!" Yup :-/
Where the extra MOLEX power connector is (for extra HD's) there is a small chip that is fried (I think it says "Q2"). It's the one between the power connector and a capacitor, right on the edge of the PS.
Anyone know what that chip does, why it suddenly burnt up, and what I can do to prevent it from happening again? I think it's safe to say I need a new PS (even though the PC was still running after this happened - I had to disconnect the power wires for it to turn off...) Will anyone give me some input as to what I did wrong? And why didn't the fuses catch it?
Oh, btw - Ground goes to chassis, ACC goes to ACC for stereo (is this my culprit?), power goes to battery, w/30A inline fuse. The TS is powered off of yellow/black wires from PS. HD, GPS mouse, Scan-Tool (gets power from the vehicle though) and CPU fan all still working after the fire.
hmm weird.. I was just curious as to what the initial problem and solution was.. since we have a lot of people who keep asking the same stuff over and over again... it might have helped them in a search or two..
as far as the 2nd problem goes.. I am sorry to say I cant help you...
where did you buy the M1-atx from? perhaps you can still get it replaced under warranty
edit: by the way the 30A fuse is a little much... for 90w you only need like a 10A fuse at the most...
