• Dschmidt Shutdown controller

I just finished installing my Shutdown Controller last night and installed Powerchute Plus 5.02 software and the Ups monitor says it is connected and all is well...but it doesn't shut down or ever log that it has received a power fail signal. Anyone have any ideas? Could i be using the wrong version of the software, tried checking the website but its gone. the paper work says it sends the power signal on pin 8 on the serial port, maybe powerchute uses a different pin? Also anyone know where i can get a copy of MP3 On Demand's shutdown software their website went down too. Or any shutdown software that will work? Thanks

I am using the same version, PowerChute Plus 5.02. It is working fine. There are some settings that need to be set within Powerchute to get it to work. I cannot remember them right now but I will check and post them here.

Make sure you're not using a Null modem cable, you need to use a normal straight through serial cable with the dschmidt controller. the powerchute software works fine for me...but i'm using win2k's built in UPS features. good luck, hope all goes well.

The controller is no longer available from Dschmidt unfortunately. It works great but he is no longer building them. The web site is www.dschmidt.com

Glad I bought mine a year ago even though I only just implemented it!

Okay call me a moron. I found out the problem. Where the MB is is up and behind the drink holders in my console, and can't be seen with out removing it...no a easy task i know i put it in and took it out and put it back in again...One of the pins on my serial port fell off. I'll bet you can guess which one...Yes Pin 8 is correct the one that sends the shutdown signal...Well some solder and complaining later IT WORKS!
Thank everyone for your help.

Are there any other comparable controllers? I'm sure there has to be someone else selling these shutdown controllers??

To my knowledge the only people who you could buy a shutdown controller from were "www.mp3ondemand.com" and "www.Dschmidt.com" both of which are now not available. I looked long and hard and the those are the only ones I could find. And while I wanted a shutdown controller from MP3OnDemand <more flexible> they closed up shop back in 2000, so I when I was ready I ordered myself a Dschmidt controller and If not the last one he had darn close to it. Please correct me if I'm wrong but if you want a shutdown controller I guess your going to have to build it.
