  • Sick of diggin' for a solution...

Someone please help. I have been reading this site for weeks now trying to figure out how to automatically startup and shutdown my PC upon truning on/off the ignition in my car... I have gotten ideas, but 1) I don't really have the resources or knowledge to do them, and 2) I am having very little luck looking for better ways.

Ideally it would work as follows:
    1. Mystery power supply has direct power line , ignition line in, and ground, with ATX or similar power out.
    2. When ignition/accesory key is on, start-up computer.
    3. If power to ignition lead turns off, send a shutdown or hibernate command to windows to allow for a smooth shutdown.
    4. If Windows hangs, cut power after, say, five minutes to protect the auto battery.
    5. If power is turned on again before windows has shutdown, cancel shutdown operation.

Can anyone PLEASE tell me how to do it so I don't have to dig anymore?
Is there somewhere I can just buy this setup without having to do a ton of soldering and programming, too?
If my ideal setup is too complex, can anyone reccommend an alternative (sorry no inverters please).

    THANKS SO MUCH,
    Jonathan

Actually, I have been following that thread, but I really still have no clue how to go about this... I have very limited knowledge in cicuit design and would greatly appreciate any assistance in getting this done as soon as possible.
      Thanks.
