  • I found a cheap DC-DC Regulator 10-17VDC to 12VDC 4A 50W

    Not shure if its any good - will let you know, got one one order
    I needed to power a LCD -

    The price and specs look nice, but the picture doesn't inspire any confidence: a regulator, a few caps, and a coil.
    Gen 1: Pentium 3 1GHz - ATX - 2005
    Gen 2: Pentium M 1.6GHz - ITX - 2006
    Gen 3: Pentium M 2.0GHz - 5.25" SBC - 2007
    Gen 4: (coming soon: Core2 Duo - 3.5" SBC - 2009)

      Potential problem is that with a single inductor setup, if it is an inverting buck boost, then it requires that the plus of the battery be the minus of the output, thus it has an inverting buck boost topology. It is the lowest cost and easiest to make for batter powered applications, the problem with this in a Car PC is that you can't hook anything up to a computer that is powered this way, No wired audio, no LCD that isn't powered off it, etc. You have a high chance of it not working..

        I trying to find some thing cheap to give 12v when the car is running


        If this dont work I think I may try this "5V and 12V POL anyone?"
        found in this forum - just hope the parts are easy to find

          here are pics of it, I removed the heat sink, I made some changes
          like drilling a hole in the heat sink so the chip could be bolted to
          it, all it had was a clip, and was not even making good contact, also
          put just a hair of heat sink compound on it,

          have not tested yet,
