  • Autoppmart shutting down

    Hey Guys,

Autoappmart has had a ton of spyware issues lately. I've shut it down for the time being. My question here is, are people finding that they like autoappmart existing? I have my own stats, but are users finding it to be a good place to still get downloads? If we want to keep the site, let's talk about it here, and I can work on getting things revived for it. We can also have a community member step in if someone would like to keep up after it.

For now, i'm just having the site point to mp3car, until we figure out a resolution.

    Thanks guys!

Grant it, there are not a lot of new things being posted to the app mart as of late. However, if you were to take it down, that would kill so many download links in threads for plugins, skins, front ends, images for weather and other icons and on and on......

I recently purchased a Windows 8 tablet, and have found a new use for the Ride Runner front end. It gives me the ability to use Ride Runner, as well as I am able to embed the metro / modern apps right into the skin. I am mentioning this, as when I started putting things together again, 90% of what I needed was available from download on the App Mart. If the AppMart were no longer available, it would have stopped me dead in my tracks.

I am sure I am not the only one that has made use of it.

    Just my 2 cents worth......

      John,

Just for my own clarification. What do you mean by "It gives me the ability to use Ride Runner"? As opposed to downloading a zip file from some place?

      Thanks!

Thanks for your feedback John. We're looking at all options. The other thing is, the core of the autoappmart is a heavily modified zen cart. It has was hacked so bad that the entire forums were at risk and admin keyloggers had been installed. If this is going to stay online, the core needs to be updated and it would need to move it to a stand alone server.

The "it" in that sentence was referring to the Windows 8.1 Tablet. I guess I worded it poorly, sorry.

If all of the existing apps could be hosted somewhere that would be great. At least they would still be available when someone needed something. The only problem then that I can see, are the current links in countless posts throughout the forum to the downloads using the AppMart existing link locations. For instance, just in my thread alone, all of the links to the RideRunner DFX skin, and the plugins all link to the appmart. I think Sonic, BlueZX3 and and just about everyone else has done pretty much the same.

Do you ever go in and track your downloads and such? Or do you use it mostly as a file server?

Honestly, I have not checked the stats on the downloads in probably a couple years now. As you know the forums and such have really died down. That being said, I still think it important to keep the downloads available for sure. Even though it has slowed way down, I do see a lot of people lurking in the forums, and giving CarPC's a second chance with the cheaper and full powered Windows 8.1 tablets available now.

Have to agree with John on this.

Whilst my plugins and skins are also available from my site a lot of other authors took the opportunity to upload their work to the autoappmart and have links to that in their threads.

One of the things that is annoying is trying to get hold of all the bits and pieces of software that make up a system, especially where the authors haven't taken up the offer of the free hosting that autoappmart provided and their links no longer work.

However not sure whether it's needed to keep the 'Shop' as such, only you know how much money is paid or donated for apps downloaded (I know that my apps don't generate much revenue) so have the data to know whether upgrading and hosting it on a separate server is going to be cost effective.

As long as the links that have been set up to link the autoappmart (from henceforth know as AAM) can be redirected to just a download repository then that should still make the apps, plugins, skins available. (obviously where the authors have set it up so it has to paid for will have to be looked at differently.)

Oh, no more AAM references so no need for the shorthand.

Thanks for providing the AAM in the first place and supporting it thus far.

Oh there was one after all.

                E.

We definitely don't want to kill any links to apps or images for them. I probably would have a link redirect service on the domain if we killed the store part. What do you guys think about Google Drive? https://drive.google.com/folderview?...EU&usp=sharing
We can have everything be read-only and mods / developers can request to have write access. You can have a folder per developer. Files here are versioned too, which is nice.

Does it allow downloading from a direct url?

I looked at it as a backup for my downloads but don't think I liked the way it did the share links.

I use dropbox and that has nice direct download links (well it used to, I think new accounts do it a different way)
