  • 256 MB of RAM minimum requirements

I think you should recheck that and write 512 MB instead

VIA EPIA EN15000, 512 MB RAM, freshly installed TinyXP Rev06, fully optimized -> disabled all services that I don't use, no paging file, using EWF and HORM, whole system & programs on Compact Flash card.
When Windows boots it uses about 43 MB, after installing GPSGate, Bluetooth, PowerMate and all other stuff it uses 100 MB.

Today I changed my 512 MB RAM to 256 MB to get some seconds when hibernate resuming... and suddenly I realize that Centrafuse crashes and I get "low virtual memory" warning. How? I still have more than 100 MB of RAM free?!

Then I start to analyze... When you start Centrafuse, believe me, Centrafuse.exe process uses about 130 MB and PhoneCTL...exe 35 MB. Is that really necessery? I wonder how much less it will be with Destinator disabled - if someone tries, please let me know.

I have another system Celeron 533 MHz with 256 MB RAM but without bluetooth and it works - sure because the whole system uses only 60 MB (50 MB less than the first one).

I am forced to use 512 MB module, even I have fully optimized system.

I have a 600mhz P3 with 256 megs of ram that CF with navigation runs just fine on...

By design .NET will use whatever memory is available, it is the design of the CLR... So the memory footprint of CF will be larger if the memory is available, this to make the application run faster by not always deallocating memory...

not sure why you had issues... With a standard XP install I have seen it work with 256 multiple times... Never tried it with phone loaded, but that is why we recommend 512, but it will run on 256...

try 384 on that system, or try that system with a full XP install without all the tweaks, maybe something is wrong...

It is because I have paging file set to 0, this is the reason of warning "virtual memory low". I know it would work with paging file (but impossible in my case - whole system and programs on CompactFlash card).

In case I use 512 MB of memory Centrafuse uses 130 MB + 35 MB Phoco. In case of 256 MB it is the same - but unfortunatelly I don't have so many RAM avaiable (256 MB - 100 MB for system - 16 MB for shared graphic, it is only 140 MB left for Centrafuse + Phoco and of course I get a warning).

384 MB is not an option on 1 slot of Via Epia motherboard. I will use 512 MB - 64 MB shared memory. So 448 MB is enough, but anyway - 130 MB process is a lot.

you could set a small paging file onto the media hard drive, you can specify which drive the page file sits on...

I guess this is why I never saw the issue and have always seen it work with 256...

Drive for media was unplugged when hibernating once - because in that case I can bring it home and copy new media on it and files won't be corrupted when resuming. So everytime system resumes, it recognized new hardware - media drive on USB.

              Had the same issue

              Uros and David,

I has the same issue the day I was ready to send the prototype XTroniC to Flux Media.
Everything runs off CF too (although the write filter isn't enabled yet), standard XP + minlogon and paging file set to 0.
Setup CF just before sending it out and noticed the problem. I had to quickly go out and buy some memory to replace the 256 megs - that is why the label on the case says 256MB instead of the 512 that are really in there.
