  • GPS won't fix my location

    Hi,
I just got centrafuse and the aussie maps installed on my car pc and it refuses to fix my location. I have used GPSInfo and it gets a good fix, but destinator ignores it almost. is there a way to set the com port and stuff like in the initial setup ( i can't get the setting showing in the navigation settings again) and/or a known fix to this?
    Thanks in advance!

I've got a similar problem at the moment where the GPS will be working fine, turn the car off - computer hibernates - then when I turn it back on and the computer resumes, I don't get a fix.

I've got the latest prolific drivers, but no dice. From what I can see in GPS info it looks like it is using a different com port than the last time I was in the car. The odd thing is that sometimes after a while it will come good, and other times it wont. Also, exiting CF (the old version, 1.4 or whatever it is) and then opening it again seems to resolve it.

I haven't really had a chance to fiddle with X-port yet, but as I understand it you specify and input com port, and an output com port. However if the "input" port is changing on me randomly, I don't know if that will solve it. I found a bunch of info on making sure that the power settings for USB hubs (which my Bu-353 is plugged into) so I'm going to try that and a few other things.

As for the com port settings, you should be able to get to it from "settings" on the main screen, then "navigation".

Oh yeah, I have the Aussie maps too. I'll let you know how I go.

Having now had time to play with x-port, I think I might have fixed my issue. I installed xport, set it to scan for my GPS, it picked it up on com port 3 @4800 baud. Then I set it to output on com4 and com5 (don't ask why i split it over two ports, I'm not using a second GPS app, it just seemed to work this way). I also ticked the prolific driver check box below the output ports.

Then I just set CF to use com4, and bob's your uncle. It does appear to stop and start my touchscreen as well after hibernation, but it doesnt cause any problems. I've been on probably 4 -5 trips now and it resumes fine every time.

I did have to reboot after installing and setting it up, so you might have to set it a few times etc to get it to work, but see how you go.

I had the same issue - after cooking my first BU-353 with GPSInfo (doing only what various forums recommended - i.e SirF mode etc), I decoded never to use it again!

I have tried XPort too - with no luck. Turns out for some reason the version of destinator i have with CF 2 doesnt have the GPS settings in it.. I cant actually choose port and baud etc.

I am now happy to buy the product as it actually works really really well.. surprisingly accurate and very customisable. The Q2 maps have all the speed cams and red light cams etc. The only issue i have found is 'You are over the speed limit' while doing 40 in a 60 zone!

Can anyone save me the hassle of hunting through forums and let me know where to purchase a retail version of Destinator 7? Im not too keen on buying CF yet, not sure if im hanging on to it, but want to buy Dest.

            Cheers!

UPDATE - At least I thought I had my problem sorted, turns out I don't.

I went on a long-ish drive last night, and after about an hour of working fine, it looses the fix. But the light was still flashing to indicate that I have a fix. This leads me to believe that the puck is fine, and it is some sort of software problem. Anyway, I reboot the computer (whilst pulled over of course :P) and it turns out that x-port had locked up.

It took ages to reboot, but it eventually did. When it started back up, everything was fine for a while, then it happened again. This kept happening for a while until I gave up and used ... a map *gasp*. On the way home I decided to kill x-port and just set it to use what ever com port it was on at the time. Again, this worked fine for a while, and then died (whilst still flashing to indicate a fix).

I decided to run GPSinfo (whilst CF said it wasn't getting a signal) to see if it actually did have a lock, but when I did a COM port scan, it sort of hung when it got to COM 3, the one it was using at the time.

It was 3am and 600km later by this stage, so I didn't do much more trouble shooting, but ill try a different com port I guess and see how I go. I think a search on x-port freezing might also be in order.

George - Sorry, wouldn't know where mate.

@VYSSO3: that's the exact problem. I'll see if destinator 7 works better

ok be careful! back up ur stuff first..

I just downloaded a new skin / language thingo for dest 7, and copied the whole set of folders into the CF dir.

Now i get a little black screen in the corner.. like i said lucky i have a backup.

Must be a .ini file or something that was overwritten that dictates screen size etc..

advanced settings is easier to find in the latest release, 2.1... You can get this on the Flux forums under Release Information... It also has improved GPS connectivity code which might fix the issue and make you not need GPSInfo or XPort...
