  • 3d Driver Assistant!

    Hi,

    I was watching a few movies this week, where the vehicles had a futuristic looking screen with a 3d character talking to the driver and I thought why can't there be a plugin or an entire front-end that is in the shape of a character giving you feed back and listening to your voice commands?

    For example, you start the ignition and it starts talking asking you if you'd like to listen to some music?

    I'm not good with coding and such but I'd reckon it's not that hard to do!

    Might get for some people but it'd look really cool when you get in the car and ask the character to start the ignition or call a friend, ha?

    Just a thought though!

      I agree, very annoying.

      Not only that, but something like that is very very CPU intensive. Since alot of people use ATOM boards, they would come to a crawl. Also voice isnt really good in the car. Alot of time voice command cant figure out what your saying because of noise.

      What I do think would be cool is a character that responds depending on what you push. So you push radio and maybe then it says radio and does a dance or something. IDK.

          No the character dances, as though hes listening to music.

          Let me ask, what do you guys call your cars, a guy or girl? i have been wanting to redo all my speech files to a certain voice, but I dont know if it should be a guy or girl? I want it to be a girl, but when I see my big Durango with a powerful V8, I dont see girl but guy.

              lol... why Simone? I would call mine a tech name, like letters and numbers. ZX1 340, if its a boy. If it were a girl, maybe Ivy from Soul Calibur 4.... Its the only girl i'd go str8 for, lol.

                    haha I think this would be extremely cheesy. Reminds me of Bonzai buddy...definitely annoying. If you want basic speech recognition, Centrafuse handles that decently. Maybe it's just me, but anything involving talking to a machine feels kind of weird.

                      @Hishamomran:
                      If you want something custom shoot me a PM...my company has the tech to pull it off. You certainly won't find anything good for free though, it takes a tremendous amount of R&D and coding time to pull off good speech recognition.

                      Well it needs to be done right. Advertising a program as capable of speech recognition is like advertising a car as capable of "driving"...theres a whole range of what that means.

                      For the most part, command based recognition feels stupid because its tasks that would be faster to just press a button for. Same thing for prompt based entry, it takes forever. The more advanced stuff starts to pay off though. Being able to speak a 2 second sentence for a task that would have taken a full minute and dozens of button presses has some serious advantages. Just my $0.02

                        There was a thread posted by SyberShot talking about Ultra hal; I was reading up on this and there is a 3D animated interface, with the ability to change based on your preferences - check out the expansion packs and plug ins.

                          I think I posted in the Ultra Hal forum, if not I do remember reading it. Since Justchat_1 is in here.... Dont setups that listen all the time use alot of CPU? I think that was the reason that Centrafuse went to a push button type setup to activate voice control. They said for the PC to listen all the time will tax the PC. I prefer the always listen way, because with me having to puch a button to get it to listen, I can simply push what I want to do in the first place.

                            I guess a lot of CPU is relative....if listening all the time you need an activation word otherwise it can be rather high (depending on the size of the recognition grammar). Even then, I know its minimal on a modern PC but probably significant on something like an atom.

                            @all:
                            I would encourage people to try out ultra hal's online demo....it could be a cool toy but is far from something useful.
