  • CF 3.1 too slow on EPIA M10000

Been a few years since I had my last setup, which was a m10000 with 512mb of ram running CF 1.2 with all accessories centrafuse supports, radio, gps, phone, obd, etc. This time around, I found an m10000 on ebay for 30 bucks so I couldnt pass it up. Im using an m10000 with 1gb of ram running CF 3.1 same deal with all the extras. And it gets unusuable at times. Especially after navigation has been loaded. Anyone else with an m10000 that runs CF 3.1 decent?

Also I noticed that the heatsink and fan were a tad loose, I noticed one corner was able to come up but the the white pins prevents it from coming off.

Could that be creating performance lags?

it's unlikely that the fan/heatsink is causing the slow. CF3 is notoriously bulky and slow and the epia chips don't really have the firepower to run it.

Yea my old M10000 ran CF3.0 really slugglishly so I upgraded it to a Jetway 2.0ghz. You might be able to turn the graphics setting to the lowest, but even then, it's really slow to load. It would be better to just spend a bit of extra $$ and get a faster board.

Well im not really trying to spend extra money. So far buying used parts and catching deals on ebay ive only spent 200 bucks. Dont know if my m2atx would have enough power for everything with a newer board and all my accessories.

Well I have enhanced graphics turned off, everything is set up for speed, including a nlited xp. I just loaded up CF 2.0 and it seems to run alot quicker. Only downside is im running bluesoleil 8 and it doesnt seem to be compatible with it. Can I use my version 8 key with an older version of bluesoleil? I dont wanna run into activation problems, cause bluesoleil support is terrible.

This is the wrong hobby for the frugal.

Look around. Read the FAQs. You will be surprised at what you find.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?

Thanks darque, I checked out the power supply consumption faq, great faq, answered all my questions.

But for being "frugal", I think its the perfect hobby. Where else do you have a online store, huge classified ads, and user forums all in one place. I first got into this quite a few years ago I went out and bought everything new, hobby has grown alot since then, so things are much more available and cheaper. But to each their own.

In case anyone was in the same spot with CF. I went ahead and installed the bluesoleil that came with CF 2.0 and it found my license already on my computer so there was no serial number issue. CF 2.0 is a world of difference in speed on the m10000. Missing the clean skin already. lol.

You may be able to run the newer CF if you use a SSD instead of a regular HDD. I have a M10000, and I plan on upgrading to an SSD as soon as the prices go down on one with decent storage space, simply because I need my applications to run faster and smoother than they are now...especially movies and video playback!!!

An SSD drive will decrease load times but will have no effect at all on the laggy interface.

Everything will run smoother because it doesn't have to wait for the file on the disk to be read to be found and read. I have the maximum amount of ram my board(M10000) will support so I will get the most out of my meager processor because it, not the hard drive, will be the bottleneck(as of right now my processor never really works hard, cause the hard drive is slower than the processor....bout to change all that).

Which is true for loading but not while running. Once loading is complete the disk is accessed very infrequently...so while it sounds good in theory your going to be disappointed if you think the hard drive is the bottleneck in that setup.

With the M10000, the hard drive isnt your bottleneck. The bottleneck is the weak 1.0ghz Via C3 processor, which is probably only slightly faster than a Pentium 3 500mhz. Dont waste your money on an SSD just yet, it's the motherboard that requires the update and not the hard drive.

Well after a few more days running Centrafuse 2.0, it was running slow when I had iGuidance navigating at the same time music was going. By chance I came across an Intel D945GCLF with 2GB of ram on ebay for $31, lol, ebay. Ill see how the atom handles CF. Hopefully its fast enough for 3.1, a step up from the m10000 at least.

The VIA M10000 is just too slow to run anything. I remember when I had mine it was a nightmare. The board gave me so many issues that I eventually gave it away. Anything is better then the VIA M10000. Is the D945GCLF single core or dual core?

Single core. Just got in the mail yesterday. Got a new sata hard drive as well, was using a laptop ide before. For some reason the board was having problems with it. Just waiting on the new drive to get here. Hopefully everything goes smooth.
