  • What's new over at Centrafuse? A LOT!

Hi gang! I don't post over here as often as I should to let the fine folks at mp3Car know what's going on at Centrafuse. I'll try to fix that moving forward.

There's a new Centrafuse (4.4.1) build out and we're pretty pleased. Here's a quick list of the improvements:

    1. Compete installer contains and checks for all pre-requisites. Installs any that are needed before installing Centrafuse. You don't have to be connected to the internet to use this installer...it's big (330mb) and complete.
    2. Automatic Updates. Centrafuse now contains an automated updater that periodically checks for new versions of the Centrafuse core, and will automatically download and install them with your permission.
    3. Lots of minor bug fixes and performance updates.

Big news on the navigation front. JohnJore has just about completed integration of PC Navigator with Centrafuse. This provides full audio event control, full CFNavInfo data, and full integration with CentrafuseConnect. Search for POIs and addresses using Google Maps and save them to your account on CentrafuseConnect. When you need them, download them directly to Centrafuse in your car and route them using Navigator. Best of all....it's all free! PC Navigator (free edition) comes with open StreetMaps. The Centrafuse app is free, as is the CentrafuseConnect app and web account.

That "free" thing is pretty popular around here, so let's keep going.

Want a full-featured DVR capability for your Centrafuse installation? You got it. DashCam1 and 2 are now available for testing. They're identical and allow you to use two cameras at once. Date/Time and GPS data is overlaid on the recording. Manual and automatic DVR recordings are supported, along with snapshots. Too much to cover here, but head over to the Centrafuse forums for details. Did I mention free?

How about some HD music? The Shoutcast app has been updated for Windows 7/8 users (.NET 4.5 Framework required). Some real nice 320kbps stations to be found (if you have the data plan to support it).

Maybe Pandora is more your style? No problem, we have that too. Again, Win7/8 users only.

We've got 2 (count' em) DAB/DAB+ apps in the market ready for you guys outside the US.

And so much more. Head on over to www.centrafuse.com or forums.centrafuse.com for all the details.

    Cheers!

Just posted an update for Centrafuse, to version 4.4.2

This update can be downloaded and installed by pressing the "update" button in settings. Just follow the onscreen directions and you're all set.

The update fixes some missing pieces in the Market app, re-enables in-place app updates and now notifies you when an installed app has an updated version available. So The Centrafuse core, and all of the available Market apps with notify you when an update is available and you can compete the update directly from the Centrafuse interface.

    Enjoy!

Can you fix the D/L from your site?? It takes 9-10 hours for a 350 meg file. It is crazy. It's like the dial up days

So as you can see, I'm not the only one having issues downloading CF...something is wrong on the CF end. My routers and modems are working as designed. Maybe you can upload it some where else so we can get to download it. After all I did pay for it..

Trading anecdotal evidence isn't going to be of much help. So let's do some debugging.

Open a command prompt and type the following (without the quotes):

                1. "ping www.centrafuse.com" and record the response time.
                2. "tracert www.centrafuse.com" and look for unusually long response times and where the trace dies.
                3. "nslookup www.centrafuse.com" and see where it resolves the IP address.

                That will get us started.

So here's what I get from the other side of Las Vegas... 25 miles from my server.

As you can see, the numbers for Google and Centrafuse are nearly identical (Centrafuse is actually just slightly better). Now on your screencap, the Centrafuse number are more than 10X worse than Google. So part of the problem lies outside of the Las Vegas metro interconnect area. But more specifically, it is outside of anything I have control over.

I'm totally just guessing, but if I were to point a finger, I'd point at Network Solutions which provides the DNS for Centrafuse.com. They suck giant #$%#$%#% ever since web.com bought them out.

I ran the pings and traces. I'm in NYC. All seems normal. But still downloading takes 5 hours. Thanks again for the drop box link. That took only about 5 mins to download.
