  • aac files, centrafuse, and you (why can't i play them)

    Hey everyone,

I did a search on this and came up with nothing. I have a great majority of my mp3's ripped in the aac format from itunes (for my ipod). Apon setting up cf on my system i noticed that a great deal (about 2000) of my 'mp3s' arent showing up. I guess this has something to do with the codec? What are my options to overcome this? download the itunes codec and install it (where)? or am i out of luck here?

    Thanks in advance,

    Scott

It's a problem. I too have a number of iTunes files. The front ends often use mediaplayer as the playback mechanism. iTunes, like other players isn't really ideal for controlling your music via touchscreen.

However, there is an iTunes SDK and writing an app in VB with big buttons to control the music is pretty damn easy, but of course, that's one of the reasons the front end software is so good -why reinvent the wheel?! Still, I'd think it's unlikely that any of the front ends will support it as they already have playback built in.

[Edit] I realized you were talking about music you encoded in AAC format, not necessarily iTunes music with the built in DRM. You can use iTunes to convert the library to mp3 if you want. Not sure about whether AAC codecs are available.

CENTRAFUSE uses DirectX for playback and can playback any file format that your system supports. You need to install a codec for AAC files and then open your config.xml file and add the aac extension to your music extensions. It will play them fine.... Not sure where to find the codec, but I have seen them... think AAC is just MPEG4...

Pretty sure 3ivx includes an AAC (aka mp4) decoder...

You shouldn't need to install anything... 1.6 includes AAC playback support natively, but not DRM protected files...

Best option right now is to save as MP3...

I have yet to contact Apple and go through potentially lengthy the process of obtaining permission to playback their DRM protected iTunes files, but I have contacted Microsoft and we are in the process of supporting DRM protected WMA's (Napster, Yahoo Music)
