      Hi,

I wonder what David is going to show at CES. All previous releases were buggy and the latest release (which is out for months) is still unusable for the people with pc´s build up from car-specific stuff. (like epia boards).

But he has done nothing to remove the bugs and to release a bugfixed-update, he just ignored the fact that this software is unusable and started once again to implement new features -> the result is still the same .. another useless release with more bugs than in the release before.

So, i don´t think you go to CES to present buggy software, unkept release dates and bug-threads which are so long, that they reach from the east coast to west coast.

In fact, i have still to use cf 1.2 which is the most stable release for me, but its more than one year old.

In this last year, i visited this forum nearly on a daily basis, to see if there is any newer and stable release (and please don´t mention the later releases where he removed the build-in navigation for what reason ever.)

But the only thing i saw were lots of announcements for newer releases but - not a single one was kept. All announced release dates were not worth the bytes of storage they used on this server.

So i don´t share your optimistic view about the release date for a bugfree cf 1.6. I hope it would be sooner than later, but .. i´d guess ... it´s february or march.

Don´t get me wrong, i know that cf still is free (but it´s far away from a quality you can expect for money), but it is the beta stadium for more than 1.5 years now .. so i think .. beta stage has to end really soon.

I always pay for software i use and ... i would pay immediatly after the release of a bugfree centrafuse with build-in gps and a usable skin. I also think the sum some of you guys here are guessing for a price of the final product is not sufficent enough.

For a working centrafuse .. i guess the price should be around 99 usd for the normal product and 198 usd for the product including all the maps you need.
(the often mentioned amount of 50 or 60 usd is .. in my opinon really a joke .. even a game for the playstation is less expensive - but will surely sell more copies)

I still think centrafuse is the most innovative product, but ... David really needs someone for his public relations and someone who reminds him not to implement everything people recommend BEFORE a stable version is released.

Yea but he never promised a bug free version or even bug fixes. Its all about features for now. A stable release is in the future but not until after 1.6

Right now i am unsatified with my options for front ends with frodo MIA and take 4 being unstable and the list of bugs and unuseability of CF, RR looks like the only choice but even with RR (which is fairly stable and is being developed consistantly) there is not a good way to browse and choose music except by playlists.

          Maybe,

but then please tell me - what is the sense of beta stage and beta testers if not to find bugs and eliminate them ?

Right now CF is packed with all available features ... but they are buggy and there are still serveral people who canīt even use it due to buggy speed problems.

As you may have read, i still use CF (and only RR with CDRskulls skin maybe an alternative), but .. from my point of view David should stop implementing new features NOW and concentrate on stabiliy.

Then .. after a usable release (lets call it 2.0) he can concentrate on adding new features (and .. selling updates ;-)

I have found 1.5 to be quite usable in my car.

I can understand completely David's decision to wow them with features at CES and then clean up the bugs. Features, not stability, excite people. He justs needs to make sure it's stable before he formally markets it. I would probably approach it the same way if I were in his shoes.

hm i do not understand why everybody is *****ing about cf not running in epia boards... sorry guys but you KNEW that they have crappy performance and crappy support. hell, even when you play divx you max out the system

My VW Passat Features a usual AMD2800+ with 1GB Ram and Radon 9800 on a ASROCK Mainboard witch fits perfectly without any need for a modification in the left coverpanel in my trunk...

CF 1.5 and 1.6 have been a stable experience for me and i am looking forward to the next release...

but these are car computers, not desktops, we dont want to compile code, we dont want to render 3D graphics, we want a nice OEM looking GPS/Media solution.

an EPIA board should be more than adaquate.

                    Please,

stop the never-ending hardware-discussion right now. Windows vs Linux, PC vs Mac, Epia vs Desktop-Stuff, that leads to nothing.

Only a few days after the 1.5 release (which is months ago) David wrote that he has found the problem / bugs and knows how to solve them.

On November 2nd he wrote: (and i quote from that thread):

                    > There are some CPU usage issues causing problems and the app to run a

                    > to stay highlighted in the OSK, mute/unmute, disconnect/connect, etc...

So, this is obviously a bug .. which he hasn´t fixed for 2 month ... although he promissed to "fix quickly". (sorry, but 2 month isn´t quick for me.)

And thats exactly what i am really ****ed for:

                    1) when releasing version 1.5 he forget to test the app on car-pc-hardware
                    2) then the bug is discovered
                    3) David seems to know how to fix it
                    4) he promissed to fix quickly
                    5) 2 month later nothing happens BUT
                    6) he still adds new features which will appear in the next version
                    7) for all the guys who bought special car-pc-hardware cf is useless in the meantime

                    That really sucks.

                    @kbreeden:

I don´t think that non-working features attract people more than stability. CF still has the most features and the potential to kick all other frontends, but - sorry - non-working features will only attract children who try to impress friends, but they are nothing for people who want a stable system in a car the use on a daily basis to drive to work or to customers. And i guess David shows CF at CES to get OEMs and distribution partners. You won´t get them with buggy software .. because they want to make money .. and you will make money only with working software.

Well I suppose as the developer David has the right to approach this however he wants.

                        HI,

sure, David has all the right to do this, and no-one forces me to use centrafuse.

But .. i also have every right to complain about it .. but if you read, i am still with centrafuse.

well thats exactly my point... what is "car-pc-hardware". my car pc hardware is a athlon 2800+, so could be yours. it was your choice to put something inferiour into your car. given the price of the epia stuff and what is available in the 'normal' market nothing suggest to waste money on some customized board. as i said - i have a ordinary asrock mini-atx board witha ordinary cpu, ram and stuff that fits just perfect in the back of my car. installation was a matter of hours.

cf is a high end application with tons of features... i don't expect my mobile phone to run complex multimedia-apps despite they would be technically supportet. they are just slow. thats what i have my mobile mediaplayer for.

as for my car - i expect a shiny application that handels and looks just as good as my mediacenter for my tv - not a stripped down application that runs on an old 486er... i want cf to SHINEEEEE and hey - if this needs 2ghz and a 3d-card, thats fine with me. as i understand it there are lots of other programs around for you to use...

There is and always has been a clear path for Centrafuse development... It might result in buggy PUBLIC releases and I apologize.... The feature list has been locked and all features will be implemented in 1.6, with the exception of possibly 1 not making it in until 1.7... then the focus is on stability and performance, which I also have been focusing on...

And for demo purposes, at shows such as CES, features means a lot more than daily stability...
