  • Parrot Bluetooth

I saw this over in the RR forum

    http://www.parrot.biz/usa/products/i...d=carpc_ck5000

This could be a good hardware option for bluetooth integration. Parrot provides bluetooth integration for the new pioneer (i know for sure) and i think kenwood bluetooth add on modules. We sell the parrot hands free modules (ck3100, etc.)and there phone compatibility is awesome.

It's control could be a plugin, just like PhoneCo. So those that like PhoneCo as an inexpensive bluetooth solution could use it. But those that either have an unsupported phone, or desire increased functionality and reliability would have an option as well.

What is it? How is it any different than a BlueTooth USB dongle? Is it software too like PhoneControl? That web-site makes no sense!

This is what streetdesck uses isn't it?
I remember the guy in the video demo of it saying they have bluetooth provided by parrot.

EDIT: Stupid me, should have loked further down the page. It answered my question.
We are, will have and forever will be...

                  Thanks for the thread link.

...I still don't get it. What does the hardware module do that a BlueTooth USB dongle can't? My phone already supports dialing from voice and everything... I can do that with a BT Headset. I do wish phone-co supported my phone so I could see a list of contacts on my touch screen .

I think it is more then a BT Dongle. The Parrott hands free units work with all phones, have no issues with Phone book downloading, and has perfect control over the phone. It allows not only the audio control, but the serial control also, Obex Push, etc. This is different then PhoCo.

Undoubtadly, this will require some SW from Parrott, but if the unit works like thier phone units, it will far surpass PhoCo, since PhoCo seems to have some issues with the control protocol and with certain phones.

There is probably a reason that Streetdeck uses/will use the Parrott unit, instead of just any old dongle with some sort of PhoCo varient.

Ok... how does it work then? The communication with the phone is either BT or USB. I'm pretty sure anything their device does can be done with software only. They just wrote the software for some embedded chip instead of for x86 right? (no doubt their software is better than anything currently available for x86, but all that hardware seems like a waste if you are connecting it to a 1GHz PC. Their market is mainly slow embedded devices.)

He MOST LIKELY uses the parrot over BT for audio and probably to control it somewhat, like to initiate and end a call, then he uses a cable connection and PhoCo to accept SMS and send SMS and the like .
