  • Using RC4 but not detecting USB GPS signal

    Hi,

I've got everything setup fine but when I try to use the Navigator it doesn't detect any of the satellites at all from my Holux USB GPS receiver. I've got the receiver set on COM3 and I can see that it has satellites tracked on the GPS Utility for my receiver, but it doesn't show anything in the Centrafuse Navigator. Is there a way to get this working? Can't seem to find any info on this.

    Thanks!

To be clear, you've set the COM3 to CF settings also?

Yes I have. I've set the baud rate to 4800 which also matches the settings on the GPS Utility. Incidentally, TomTom running on the PPC Emulator tracks fine, it's just CF that doesn't seem to pick up any signal.

Are you talking about Destinator built into CF?

You can't have 2 apps viewing the same com port. You'll have to close the GPS Utility before CF can read from com 3. You can get around this by using a com replicator, I reccomend xcopy3 (search for it here).

Yup it's the built in Destinator on the current CF. I don't have 2 apps open at a time, I'm only stating that to assure that the GPS is functional for other apps but the GPS on CF is not.

Well, the Destinator in CF isn't really supported fully at this moment...

I use iGuidance, but I think I need to upgrade to get the nice skin working right that some one made for CF - still with version 2.something.

Like fatejd said, this is kinda' the state of being right now.

CF is shipping with a very small set of maps for beta testing - basically a small part of NYC and Germany (I think). David (Mr. CF) doesn't have permission from the Destinator folks to ship all the maps during the beta cycle. They _will_ ship with the full product once CF is released. (date unknown)

The semi good news is that if you went out and bought Destinator v6 _now_, then those maps would magically work in CF. But, you'd be in a spot that you may have to pay for the maps twice once CF ships - David's trying to figure out that license issue along with everything else he has going on.

So... bottom line, if you have the locked display showing up in Destinator, that's probably all you're gonna see for a while.

I don't have the v6 maps (for Australia) but I have the PN maps for Australia which I have managed to bring up (see street names etc). The only thing is that it can't see any satellites (doesn't lock a position and says "Satellites 0" ) which I didn't think was a map issue as the map is just an image with coordinates isn't it? Or am I incorrect to assume that?

Whoops... my bad. I misread your previous point, and I even quoted it. I didn't see the what you were finding a lock in:

                    My bad, my apologies.

Yes, I think you should at least be seeing sats locking up in Destinator.

Use Xport3, and CF will find your gps receiver

I don't think that's the issue... JonDubya covered that angle above.

Yeah i don't think using a port replicator will work, but in any case I'll try Xport3 just to please the masses. I'll get back with my findings. In the mean time, can anybody else advise why this may be happening? Anybody experience a similar problem?

PS. All good midiwall - text isn't the best medium to describe a problem like this.

Check the nav settings in CF...make sure the baud rate is correct.

Yep the settings are COM3 and Baud Rate 4800 which is what all the other GPS programs detect (including the TomTom PPC Emulator).
