  • Full screen visualization Setup Error (CF 1.12)

    Hi,
When playing MP3's and putting one of the two included vis on full screen I get the

"Failed to load resources from resource file
    Please check your Setup"

error. This happens after a minute or two of being in full screen for the vis.
Not sure what is causing this.

I usually need to reboot to get it working again after that.

Does it happen with both Visuals or just one of them?

      It happens with both visualizations.
takes about one or two minutes before the message appears and CF crashes once it is fullscreen.

When playing normally and displaying the vis(either of em) in the small square on the right I have no problems (I ran it for a couple of hours yesterday with no problem).

Another similar problem I had (maybe related?) is that when I added new visualizations from ultraplayer(was it the name) CF would crash and cause my system to reboot, whether the visualizations were running or not.

not all visuals will work, but many will in the link I provided...

        http://support.xmplay.com/file.php?cat_id=6

Again you will still have problems with some, but you can usually find many that will work...

I have the visuals running on 2 test machines and they have been running since last Friday non-stop...

Have you switched memory on your system recently or any other hardware?

I haven't switched any of the major hardware in a while.

Is this error usually a memory issue?
Not sure what the cause could be for this. When I run winamp vis in fullscreen I have no problems (I ran them for 3-4 hours).

I'm running a P4 ITX board with 512 DDR, I never had problems with it before though...

that error can be caused by a bad loop in code, memory issues, and a number of other things... It is a generic .NET error message that really has no meaning...

I had reports of this error message when resuming from hibernation with XM, and when watching other visuals, but the two I included should not have any memory issues...

Does your memory in task manager get really high right before the application crashes?

Mem usage seems to be normal around 125M, with CPU usage running at 20% when playing music.

When I got to fulsscreen with vis Mem stays about the same but the CPU usage goes to 96-100% and after a while it crashes.
However it seems that when the task manager is on, it keeps it from getting this error. But as shorty after I close the TM it crashes with that error message...

                that is even stranger...

The TM should not affect whether it crashes or not... Also on my test machines which are drastically slower than you setup I only get 30% CPU usage in full screen visuals... Even on a M1000 VIA setup...

                What resolution are you running?

                  The system runs on 1024*768 on a P4 1.6GHz
I have no idea what is causing this, and I also thought it very strange for the TM to have an effect on whether it crashed or not...

                    CF using 195meg? There's a leak somewhere...

I saw you say that the mem usage is flat, but that number is WAY high. What's the number when you first fire up CF, and then how fast does that number climb up to the point that CF crashes?

The memory usage for CF starts from 0 to ~175M during the loading process.
This is with absolutely no interaction from my part, and stock install (no upgrade or anything). I did add some plugins (calc and Calendar, but they didn't seem to change the performance).

                      My current setup is:
                      -P4-ITX board
                      -P4 1.6G
                      -512 DDR PC 2700
                      -60G Hitachi 2.5" HDD
                      -USB optical drive
                      -USB griffin powermate
                      -USB GM210 GPS receiver
                      -USB XMPCR
                      -Xenarc TS Touchscreen (USB)
                      -USB Keyboard
                      -USB Wifi
-Serial OBDII interface (currently not plugged since the comp is on my desk for testing before putting it in)

What I got working on CF:
                      -GPS with some D3 maps
                      -Music (MP3, CD, whatever)
                      -DVD
                      -Internet
                      -Calc
                      -Calendar
                      -Mixer
                      -XM
                      -Web

                      That's all...
I haven't really messed with any of thr files of CF aside from adding vis or removing them because of this crash issue. Other than that the install is pretty clean.
I also run XPort I got on this site, cuz I was having sopeproblems with the GPS receiver when trying to get it to work on CF directly, but adding that did not make any difference on the vis problem.

For some reason the vis in fs doesn't crash when the TM is on... Go figure why, beats me completely.

Aside from all that my windows XP is running basic services, antivirus, stuff like that. I also have .Net Framework 2.0 (I had 1.1 and upgraded to see if it would make any difference; The only difference it did is that it now tells me that CF has crashed and needs to close instead of the resource error.)

This is all the info I have for the time being.
If you can think of anything else for me to check, I'll be glad to do it!
                      Thanks

That is way too much memory...

It is using that much memory during startup before you even start running the visual?

What all did you change in settings, is voice enabled, phone, anything else you changed?

It should be using around 110 megs with most everything enabled minus phone, phone adds a little more but not near that much...

It runs constantly around 170Megs all the time regardless of the visualization. Adding vis only Maxes the CPU and eventually causes CF to crash.

I don't have bluetooth, so I don't have the phone feature activated.
I have voice for the directions, but no voice commands activated.
And I have some D3 maps for the GPS that get loaded at the beginning.

The other only thing I can think of is music being on another partition, but I don't see how that would affect memory usage.

Is there any way to check what is taking memory within CF?

fwiw... here's a couple of different views of my CF installation:
67meg sitting idle right after startup.

                              stupid question:
how do you get that properties window?

I also reinstalled CF to see if it would make any difference.
It would seem that the memory usage jumps from ~80M in 858x843 to ~170M in 1024x768 when I switch it in the first setup.
So I guess the memory usage is directly linked to the viewing size of the window.
I'm going to keep playing around with it and see what results I get...
