  • CFMapPoint updated again

    Things are coming along nicely.
Here is another teaser screenshot with all of the features being shown in use:

I use a mix of built in MapPoint panels/dialogs and non-skinned dialogs.
Once the UI solidifies I will make true skins for it.

I have installed this in my car and am starting to use it on a daily basis (when I'm not riding the motorcycle).

Feel free to download it and give it a try:

Let me know about any problems you have w/ it.

Great work! This is progressing nicely

I have now gotten hold of Mappoint 2004 for Europe. The 2006 version is due this summer... MS is a bit slow on this one. I'll try it in my car this weekend

Another great little app that goes nicely with your plugin is StumbVerter.
    http://www.sonar-security.com/sv.html

It only supports 2004 version (not the 2002 version) It might support 2006 I dont know.

    From the website:
    StumbVerter V1.5

StumbVerter is a standalone application which allows you to import Network Stumbler's summary files into Microsoft's MapPoint 2004 maps. The logged WAPs will be shown with small icons, their colour and shape relating to WEP mode and signal strength.

As the AP icons are created as MapPoint pushpins, the balloons contain other information, such as MAC address, signal strength, mode, etc. This balloon can also be used to write down useful information about the AP.

      That's really nice, paulpv!

It's a little difficult to determine what bugs there might be in the plugin due to the CF1.6 embedded-app focus issues, but I'm very impressed.. is the "Nav Menu" title/button supposed to do anything at this point?

In the latest release I just added a "Not Yet Implemented" popup for the Nav Menu.

What sort of app-focus issues are you seeing?
I refactored the layout a bit in the past two revisions and I think I unfortunately slowed down the resizing (you can see it "pop" when toggling between fullscreen and non-fullscreen).
The new layout is more managable, so unless I get huge complaints I am going to leave it as is.

        StumbVerter looks cool.
Yes, all map data is supposedly saved in the CFMapPoint.ptm file.
Until I whip together an import (or better) for the plugin, you should be able to open the map directly in MapPoint and import to your heart's content.

Just don't name a Pushpin "GPS"; I will nuke it and create a new one when CFMapPoint starts up.

StumbVerter's _awesome_, and yes, it supports MP 2006 just fine. I used it this morning to convert NetStumbler data and drop it into MapPoint 2006.

How do I obtain a lock onto my gps location. I got the plugin loaded corrrectly, and the zoom function works. But how do I make it so that it locks onto my location?

The latest version mysteriously stopped working w/ even my GPS.
Even my simple unit test for the GPS stopped working!
That's funny, I haven't changed the GPS code in weeks! (months?)
Maybe it has something to do with a Windows Update?
              Who knows!
I am looking in to this as I type this, but I am perplexed so no promises about how soon it will be fixed.

              Trust me...it *used* to work!

                WEIRD!
I rebooted and went straight to Windows HyperTerminal and even it cannot open my GPS COM port.

                The thought plickens...

Can someone do me a favor?
I have rebooted and went straight to loading this application:
                  http://www.swooby.com/cfmappoint/gpsinfo.zip
I *still* cannot get it to access my GPS.

If the above app cannot open your GPS COM Port, then neither will CFMapPoint be able to.

This is so weird...it *used* to work!

I will have to fight my COM port settings to see if I can force it to get it to work again.

For the record, I am getting "E_ACCESSDENIED" when I try to open the COM port programmatically.

Semi-eureka: When I quickly launch GPSInfo immediately after a reboot then I can open the GPS port. If I close and reopen the port after boot is complete then I get access denied. Something else is attaching to *all* of my COM ports. Grrr...this is new!

If I open Mappoint...not in CF I can obtain a lock. But when I use the plugin, the lock button does not work.

BTW thanks for integrating Mappoint into CF, to me this is one of the most exciting software developments for CF. Since I already had Mappoint 2004 lying around the house, this will be perfect!

Have you config'd the GPS COM Port in the plugin's settings?
Have only ever run w/ one type of GPS receiver, so I have not tested that this works w/ all GPS receivers.
(I have a new one coming in the mail in the next few days)
What GPS receiver are you using?
