  • The Skin Options Request Thread

This thread is for requesting features related to skins.
Note: Do not request specific skins here, only features that Centrafuse currently doesn't have.

I'll update this post with the requests as they come in.

    So, here's what I've heard:
    • Skin Editor
    • Ability to have a music progress slider
    • Ability to use static menu buttons - no drop-down
    • Ability to use images on selection highlights instead of gradients
    • Ability to have fast forward and rewind buttons
    • Ability to display "feeds" within the skin - Current speed, CPU temp, GPS heading
    • Full transparency - so you can see through to the desktop if transparent PNGs are used
Post up, people -- help make Centrafuse the best!

In my eyes, "ability" from the above post would mean that if a certain line of code is in the skin XML, the feature is enabled, otherwise it would be disabled.

So, if the default skin doesn't use certain features, it just wouldn't include that block of XML, and the rest of the program would function just fine.

I believe you can use a static menu now that I think about it... If you put the 6 main buttons on the left, with on arrow key above and below it, that should work...

This would make those always show on the left and be static... Then you could use or not use the top menu button...

I want a skin editor too

      Looking into progress bar...

Only handful of people seem to want the fastforward/rewind buttons back, most seemed to not mind the new method... We also made the buttons a lot bigger...

        nice idea about static menu

        RE: skip buttons...
maybe if you made the button change icon once it went to FF mode it would help, maybe have FF activated by dbl click, and a click to carry on playing.

I read this 6 times, and I still don't understand what you mean by this. I am very interested in getting this straight, can you elaborate when you have 2 mins?

          Thanks!

The 6 main buttons are the ones with the icons that are in the center area. Someone has already tested that if the app/plugin doesn't cover them they are still usable. So if you move those buttons to the left for example and reduce and shift the main area to the right you can click them from any area. The only problem with that is you would have to include the arrows somewhere as the main buttons have upto 18 assigned actions to them.

OK, got it now. I missed the part about this being the main buttons! I thought he meant the main menu buttons, so nothing made sense to me.

OK, so that's cool. Might be a workable solution.

Would it be too hard to code an option in setting menu where you would choose which buttons will show?

You could code the skin itself you can set the width and height to zero and place it in one of the corners. It would basicly be doing the same thing.

Just make sure you don't set any button actions to that button else you won't see it.

Skin feature request: Ability to display "feeds" (Meedio terminology) within the skin. For example, a GPS plug-in could publish a MPH feed and then a skin could place it where ever it wants.

...or is this already how song-title, time, and other such text work?

Another request: Per TC's traffic thread... David should add support for PNG alpha-blend transparencies. (I'm still working on that for SKINbedder as well, but it should be easier for David as he doesn't have to worry about the background image changing like I do with the iG/GE map windows.)

Ya Id really like to see the title text (title area/clock/date) be customizable with different information

CPU temperature is one thing that comes to mind

Definitely an awesome idea --- but I would think that this is possible via a plugin?

David, is it possible to code a plugin such that you can place data on top of one of the standard windows? Or does it all need to be contained within its own 'environment' for the plugin?

I hope there wont be a slider...i love the new buttons its so simple and clean and adding the slider makes the app look for like a computer program....i say keep it just how it is...

                              WTF?

Does TiVO seem like a computer program then? What about an iPOD? A slider allows you to visually see your position as well as instantly jump to any position. FF/REW buttons are old technology. At least replace them with 30-second skip ahead, 15-second skip-back buttons.
