  • FreeICE 1.7 Frontend Released....

    Grab it from www.FreeDrive.co.uk

    more info...

    [Updated in 1.7] 2 Mar 08
Added the ability to configure the menu buttons
    Added games module
Added a simple setup screen (loads more to add yet_
afew bug fix's (cant remember to be honest)

To access the extra buttons on the menu just tap above them

    The menus work like so........

In the skin folder you will find skin.ini (looks like..)

    &MENU1=MEDIA;Media;icons/media.png&
    &MENU3=GPS;Navi;icons/gps.png&
    &MENU2=RADIO;Radio;icons/radio.png&
    &MENU4=WEATHER;Weather;icons/weather.png&
    &MENU5=CALC;Calc;icons/calc.png&
    &MENU6=PICS;Pictures;icons/pics.png&
    &MENU7=GAMES;Games;icons/games.png&
    &MENU8=SETTINGS;Settings;icons/settings.png&
    &MENU9=;;& .. etc

So you can now change the position of all the buttons. They work as
    Menubutton=COMMAND;Text;Icon

If the COMMAND is not one in my skin file then it first looks for it in the fi.ini and if its not found in there it looks through the skin.ini..

You can see how it works as I have used it in my Games menu.. Because GAMES command isnt part of my skin it looks for GAMES line in fi.ini then skin.ini when it fines it in the skin.ini it embeds it the same way it does the gps.

    Hope that makes sense

having a problem. cannot run iGuidance v3 with this front end. downloaded FreeICE V1.7 and for some reason cannot get it to run. when I click the Navi tab, it opens iGuidance in the background and will not run within freeICE.

    is this line correct?

    gps=iGuidance DRIVE,C:\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance\iGuidance.exe -r800x480 -no-safety,0

Hi m8.. you dont need all the -r800x480 -no-safety bit.. thats for Sygic DRIVE ONLY.. you also need to identify the window name for iGuidance.. so your line may look something like..

      gps=iGuidance,C:\Program Files\iNav\iGuidance\iGuidance.exe,1

      hope that helps

Downloading now, can't wait to give 'er a try........

        *edit*

        Fast, clean stable. Very nice.

        Some quick odservations:

1.The games don't respond to keyboard inputs on my laptop though.

        2. I'd still like to see an option to use HD radio for those of us on this side of the pond.

        3. A way to swap visuals inside the skin would be jammy. exiting and opening WMP11everytime is a pain in the ***.

        4. A GPS speed readout is nessesary on the man screen.

        5. The button style is a nice addition

        6. Not sure about the huge volume setting display that pops up whenever you turn it up and down. Just doesn't seem to fit the overall theme, especially the font.

But, comming along very nicely. You sure can turn out the work fast...........

        Cheers

Woo, i like this version! everything is working smoother!
btw, i tried the game, and how on earth do you shut it down? after i finish i still can hear the sound while i'm on another screen..
Anyway, i still have a question about the forgein language file name. Its having problem regconizing the .mp3 tag at the end. Whenever i change the filename to english it seems to work fine. My question is, how come it works fine on wmp11 outside of FI, and not within FI?

Great work as usual CdR, love the new version. Haven't implemented it into the CarPC yet, but have it on my flash drive ready to go. I'll install it today when I take my break at work.

I do have to agree, the font on the volume overlay just doesn't fit. I like the idea of the overlay, but the font should be changed to match the rest of the skin.

Other than that, I have ZERO issues. In fact, I love the ability to add custom buttons and corresponding embedded apps. Super simple and looks great. WOOT!!!

                  Thanks CdR!

I have been and still do have problems with embedding iGuidance 4.0. I will embed, but the status bar and menu bar still remain. Clicking fullscreen screws up the embed display... Setting 0 or 1 doesn't make any difference. It does work fine in RR though...

I finally got a chance to do this fix on my carPC but it's still not working. GPS will not load up and I sit with just the background image.

I also noticed that when I play music the song starts for a second and then restarts. Sort of like a blip. The track forward arrow causes it to skip a track. On the opening screen, none of the icons show up just the button titles.

Could my issues be hardware related?

Also, when I close freeICE, I get a windows popup say Freecar has encountered a problem .

                      AppNameL freeice.exe AppVer:1.5.0.0 ModName:unknown
                      ModVer:0.0.0.0 Offset:030fb442

I know I probably need more memory but I can't find my 1gb stick of DDR.

                      I am running the following:
                      VIA Nehemiah 1.00 GHz 480MB
                      80GB SATA 2.5" HDD

Not sure why it reports as 480 when I have a 512 stick in there.

Any help is much appreciated. Your frontend works smoothly on my laptop and I want it in my car too.

Dunno if it is hardware so much as OS or driver related. Easiest would be to make sure you have the latest stable drivers and latest flash version. If you've still got problems then, try a clean OS install and see if your problems still come up.
