  • WTD: Simple Web Home Page Design

I'm after someone who can do a simple home page for me. I've coded in a webbrowser into FreeICE's next release and thought it would be good to have a nice press friendly home page that it firsts goes to.

Something like a row of icons across the top to take you to Googlemaps / Gmail / Facebook / twitter etc and a google search box in the middle..

anyone up for it? I would host it at freeice.co.uk/home and would update a news line with current / expected release dates of FI.

    Many thanks,

    Steve

Yep, I'll give it a shot. Do you have a color scheme or design or anything?

If either of you need a hand I know a fair few tricks.
I recently used this to build a website for an ipad to make nice touch friendly buttons:

nope.. will leave it completely up to you. What I would say is because it's being accessed from the car I would try and keep it fairly low regarding the size it (in kb's). It needs to load quickly otherwise people will just complain and some might only have a slow connection.

            Thanks

What are you wanting it to do, just be a generic home page?

When someone clicks on the browser button this will be the page they see. Something like a row of icons across the top to take you to Googlemaps / Gmail / Facebook / twitter etc and a google search box in the middle..

but whatever you think.. in the end I'm only guessing what users want.

                thanks again

Sounds like just a launch pad to me..
What resolution is the browser area? or the smallest you want to fit anyway?

the size will be 800 x 480..hmm maybe a little more.. 550 high, cant remember off hand to be honest.

Yep just a launchpad. Just something that would be handy for users rather than just going to google.

I will have a quick crack at it.. (would that resolution not be bigger than some users screens?)

I don't have time to do it now but I can toss it around tomorrow if need be.

                          Ok my quick attempt..
Tested in firefox and IE and it mostly renders ok..
Just download the text file and rename it to html and open in a browser.

If you have access to a database and php you could easily allow users to save their own customised link buttons and personalise the google search for their country etc...

                          Hope that helps.

If you are ok with html it shouldn't be too hard to follow what I have done and tweak the colours etc (not really much of a designer )

Looks good, better than what I could have done. But it is kinda generic...
How about adding some color to that background? What is the default skin color(s) for FreeICE?

Yeah it is a bit, I wasn't feeling too imaginative
I also figured that as it was going to be inside freeice and inside the browser too much more branding might be overload.. but I haven't used or seen freeice so not sure
Not sure on default colours either I got the grey and blue ideas off the main page in Steve's Signature.

Should be pretty easy for someone to mod or even me if someone gives me some more direction.
